Prescription medications

Hi wondering about if you relocate to Egypt how do you get prescriptions and are the costs elevated ..thanks in advance for any help

Hi

If you need medication you just go to a doctor. In Hurghada there are several reputable hospitals like the Nile Hospital where you can see the relevant doctor. There are not GP's in Egypt so you see a specialist relevant to your illness/condition.
With regard to prescriptions - there are good pharmacies and not so good. Some elevate the price if you are a foreigner but most don't. El Ezaby is a reputable pharmacy chain. Their prices may be a little more but you have the knowledge that the service and products are very good.

Yes thank you it helps. I鈥檓 diabetic and just was thinking if time really came to make a move there I was worried about the care and meds available. Are you living in Egypt now

I am not living there at the moment. I still have friends living there though. I lived there for 3 years and have been back 2 years now...

I have an Egyptian friend with type 1 diabetes and he had to have insulin shots several times a day. I can always find out what doctor he used if you need help with that.

Did you enjoy living there and if u don鈥檛 mind me asking where did you live. I鈥檝e been there 5 times and I know it鈥檚 so different from USA but I think of being there more someday.

I have type 2 but with metformin and Levimer shot once a day by pen shot. I know there is pharmacies so small everywhere but haven鈥檛 really bought medicine except for headache off the shelf. It鈥檚 not necessary now but if you get a chance it would be great also maybe for others to know:) Thank you

I did enjoy living there most of the time. Once I learned the ropes so to speak things were much better. It can be hard living there though in some respects. I found that by not having 'western' expectations I blended in much better. Respecting the culture and traditions of the country is really important and by doing that you will be shown respect in return.
I lived in El Kawther in Hurghada.

I am not sure what the age cap is but I think it may be 25 years.
We are only a few years apart in age so it was not an issue.

Hi Tiger Lily
In our previous post about medication you mentioned your friend has Diabetes. If possible could you as him when he gets a chance if the pharmacy provides Levimer insulin ... I take by pen injector but if they don鈥檛 have ... a regular vile is fine. I usually go through 350 units a week. Thank you I hope you have a great week

Hi girls,
I'm an Egyptian pharmacist.
It's not hard to get any meds here in Egypt even without prescription except some addictive meds, if you know what the meds you are on, just go to the pharmacy and ask him your meds.
I read that you are on levimer penfill and metformin, and the answer yes there are here in the Egyptian market, just go to the pharmacy and ask for them. He will not ask for any prescriptions.
I hope that could be helpful for you.

NB. If you are in a touristic city, they could be more expensive than others, just buy your meds from pharmacy chains and know that all meds in Egypt are priced and the prices are written on the boxes in Egyptian pounds.

You are welcome, don't worry about your meds, it's more easy than US and more more cheaper.

Aha BTW, metfomin here is called glucophage, with different conc, 500, 850, 1000 mg.

I聽 so glad to hear that the meds are easy to get. I am on glucophage at the moment. I am also on cholesterol medication called astavor and high blood medication called lisoretic 20/12.5. Will i be able to get exact meds there?
