Registration of pet dogs in the MSAW database

caryg

Hello everyone, I am writing to you about the Animal Welfare Act, which makes it compulsory for all dog owners to have their dogs microchipped and registered with the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare.

See:

When we came to Mauritius with our animals two years ago, I seem to remember that we had to register our dogs with the Ministry upon arrival. And of course they have microchips.

So I wanted to know if you think we are exempt from this registration or if we have to do it because it is something new.

If anyone has any information on this subject, I would be grateful to hear from you.

Thank you in advance and have a good day, everyone.

Caryg

PS: Someone on the french forum suggested I could call the MSAW for information but I don't manage to have them on the phone (either busy or they didn't answer when I called).

Hi, I haven't heard of this before. I doubt if many people have done so. Most owned dogs are kept as guard dogs and so don't go out a lot. Given the amount of stray dogs it would be a drop in the ocean.Â
