I'm about to complete my degree in International Business & French and exploring prospects around moving to Mauritius but wanted to find out ore about living costs, the lifestyle there etc from anyone who lives there?
Thanks in advance!
I'm considering moving from the UK to Mauritius, however, I've never been before! So I'm coming to Mauritius in September for 4 months initially on a tourist visa, to see if it is a place that I want to live. If I like Mauritius the plan is to come back on a premium visa.
For my trip in September, I'm wondering where is the best place to book short-term accommodation for 2-3 months? Is Airbnb the only option for this, or do some estate agents also provide short-term lets?
Thanks,
Estelle
Thank you in advance.
We hope your stay as an Expat in Mauritius is great ! Â
Thank you.

Nice meeting you here. I would like a chance to chat with you more about the real estate market in Mauritius and explore options to purchase and whether it’s a good idea from an investment perspective for an expat. I’m also considering relocating from from where I currently reside (in the center) when my current lease expires.
Regards,
Sands
Planning to visit Mauritius by February next year.i believe I will get help from here .
It is my 2nd "round " in Mauritius since have lived here 2009 to 2011. Have Mauritian partner so that helped in settling in , work in hospitality, and in free time assist with animal welfare/foster dogs. Glad to assist anybody with any info if needed
we are German, currently living in Spain and will make Mauritius our new home for retirement by September next year. After working long times overseas all the time and having less of a private time, we are looking forward to start our "new life" on this beautiful island. After all this Corona time we got aware of that one should cherish every single moment in life. Not to wait for doing things - just DO IT!
And for us Mauritius as a new home it is.

We hope to find every smallest information which might help us for a "smooth" relocation.
We are a family from South Africa, currently living in Constantia in the beautiful Western Cape. We are currently applying for my retirement VISA in Mauritius and if my VISA is approved and all goes well, we will be moving to Mauritius in Jan/Feb of 2022. We have 2 boys, Tristan 11 and Ethan 7. We are bringing our other family member, Ranger our Golden Retriever with us.
We are both excited and little anxious as we do not know really what to expect. We have read a ton of information on Mauritius and so far feel its a place that we should be ale to call home one day.
Thank you for this platform [expat] as we find it very informative and the go-to for advise. All the best and see you soon! Â

I do have apartments for rent on a short term or long term basis.
They are located in East side of the island.
If you are interested in knowing more, let me know.
Thanks.
Vishaal.

Hi Maria,
Nice meeting you here! I have lived in Botswana for a short stint and would be excited to meet you if you end up relocating to Mauritius.
To answer your questions. I think it all depends with your perspective. I have lived in a few African countries before relocating to Mauritius and my perspective is formed from my previous experiences. I find Mauritius a bit more expensive than the average southern African countries I have lived in including Botswana. But I think that’s understandable, it’s a tiny island (albeit with population numbers close to those of Botswana) and most things to sustain human livelihood is actually imported onto the island, so things tend to be expensive. Maybe also being a holiday resort drives up costs of things like accommodation and such. But I find services (e.g. internet, water and sanitation, electricity etc) reasonably cheap.
In general the lifestyle is very laid back. If you were coming for retirement to the island, I would say it’s a perfect place for you. Not really sure it’s the best place for a young graduate starting out a career! There’s not much to learn or experience on the island! It’s not hustling and bustling with activity, or events really. Infact within 3months you’ll likely have experienced every tourist and interesting attraction there is on the island and left with nothing to do. But it’s safe and the people are warm and friendly.
Wishing you all the best with your decision making.
Regards,
Sands
