What surprised you about life in Tangier?

I was a writer until chronic illness made that impossible. I am just getting to the point where I can write a little creatively--not very well, but for fun. The story I am writing now is really more of a brain exercise, and also a way to explore places I wish I was healthy enough to travel to.

In part of my story, the main character spends most of 2019 in Tangier.

Would any of you in the forum indulge me by sharing your funny little stories about things that took you by surprise or took adjusting to when you moved to Tangier? The more ordinary, the better. What was different about cooking? Going shopping? Taking a taxi? That sort of thing.

Also, was anyone there in 2019, and do you know of any notable events that year?

I promise this story will never see the light of day. But even so, I want to practice writing well--doing my research, being accurate, painting a picture--in hopes that someday my brain WILL be healed enough to write again.
