For me, the hardest part is consistency. One week the tomatoes are great, next week they're mush. And finding specific things you took for granted back home — decent cheese, proper bacon, bran flakes — can be a proper mission.

The other headache is just the sheer time. You can't always do one big monthly shop because fresh stuff doesn't keep. So you're constantly at the market or the shop every few days. And if you're working full time, that gets old fast.

I've ended up doing a mix — local markets for veg and meat, plus a McGrocer order every month or two for the UK shelf-stable bits I miss. It's not cheap with shipping to Nigeria, but neither is hunting all over Lagos for HP sauce.
