Am I still a SA citizen???

OliGlad

Bonjour,

having been living in Cape Town for 15 years till 2007, I eventually got the South-African citizenship (an actual dual citizenship: on top of the existing French one). Can some one answer the following question: after 15 years out of RSA am I still a SA citizen or might the government have cancelled this citizenship after many years with no news??

Actually I came several times to CT on holiday in the meantime but I was only using my French passport, and not the SA one that had expired.

Thanks in advance if someone has an idea or a thought!!! Olivier

Hello OliGlad,

Did you obtain the South African citizenship through Naturalisation ?

Once you have the citizenship it is very unlikely that it will get cancelled just because you were not in the country.

Do you have an ID card ?

Bonjour Bhavna,

thank-you for your quick reply. Yes I did obtain it after having lived a certain number of years in CT. I have an ID, issued in 2000. My passport has been expired since 2012.

I will contact the queries services dept; thanks!

Have a beautiful day and kind regards,

Olivier
