Moving over in two weeks. I am wanting to bring a small amount of cargo that will not be able to come with my flight. Does anyone have any idea how much I can expect to face in import charges once my stuff arrives in Cambodia? (it's coming with DHL most likely. A pallet roughly) Thanks!

Tax cut on import are high, i heard 180-200% , never done it myself but info from very reliable source, hopefully someone can come in and confirm it ( its even higher in vietnam )

Does that mean 180 to 200% of the value of the items?

I believe so, this source imported a range rover 5 years ago ( ish ) had to pay 200% tax over value of the car. Im strictly basing myself on that, very reliable source, familly and not a liar has the wealth to go with it. Mostly giving me info about cambodia, but like i said, ive never imported anything dont want to mislead, and well that was a car afterall. In VN it's 400% value.

I have a great idea I did some pictures from my I pad, I'm no photographer , and people were so interested in the raw photos, spiders for sale to eat, 6 people on a moto, vegetables at the markets ,fish, four whole hanging pigs, I sold them all , I made several copies, you would be surprised by how many people wanted these market photos for their kitchens restaurants, butcher shops, I did well, I'm retired from California, sold them at three swat meets, I am not needing a job , but I do go back to USA a few times a year , I'm in Phnom Penh now until  October, would love to show you a few I sold completely out, just didn't want to print anymore , to lazy , just a thought, these are not typical Angkor wat stuff , pretty raw, ,I'm at aeon a lot if your interested , I would love to show you a few I sold well ?

I worked in Cambodia back in the mid to late 90's.I didn't particularly care for the country back then.I have heard that it is much better in Cambodia now.My wife is Cambodian and we own some land on an island that we bought back when land was really cheap in Cambodia.We are living in Florida in America now.We own a beachfront home here in a quiet fairly little known area that only as 100 full-time residents.There's no crime and the pace of life is slow and everyone here is nice to everyone else.I am retired and can catch fish in front of my house everyday if I am in the mood to fish and the no see ums and mosquitos are not too bad.We have coconut trees and royal poinciana trees and all sorts of flowering trees and beautiful flower gardens all over our property that my wife has grown and maintains.we are thinking of selling out and returning to live in Cambodia.The cost of insurance on beachfront property has doubled and we are spending about $10,000. annually on flood,wind ,and homeowners insurance.If it were not for the crazy insurance prices we would never leave this beautiful place.We are thinking of selling our island property and buying property in Sihanoukville when we get to Cambodia.I have heard that Sihanoukville is no longer the sleepy town that we used to enjoy back in the 90's.Does anyone have any information on Sihanoukville.I have read that Sihanoukville seems to have become overrun with misfits from Europe,Australia and America.I suppose that when I was younger I would have blended in nicely with them but now I am too old for bar room brawls and endless drunken conversations.I am no longer a night owl and am more of a day snail.

My parents are expats and I hoped to get an early start on the community here as I wish to come back to Phnom Penh after studying if possible.

Hi, I am planning on moving to Cambodia in November. I want to teach English and enjoy my time in Cambodia. I am 58 and just graduated college in May. The last three summers I have spent in Cambodia averaging around 3 months each stay. At this point I am looking for job openings or even volunteer positions. As well as teaching English I have some ability in art and mechanics as I was an aircraft mechanic for 30 years. I already have a number of Cambodian friends both in the U.S. and in Cambodia. I guess my biggest need is to make some expat friends as it is hard going months with only limited English being spoken.
I am not the bar type although I will go have a beer or two once in awhile.

Meeting other expats in PP is not difficult,however, most socialising happens around the bars, however, that does not mean you have to be a complete pisshead, places like St 172 and in BKK1 have many bar/restaurants, which are convenient places to hang out, eat, drink and meet other expats be it teachers etc.

There tends to be loose groups of expats that gravitate to regular haunts, it's easy to join in. They are a mixed bunch and range from new-age consciousness to angry old men, and sometimes a little tolerance is required, but it can be really interesting as a result.

From England via many other countries but settled here since 2008. I find the city very chill; like a British town only without the violence, with better food, weather, slimmer and younger people, more smiles and all round higher standard of living. The biggest worry is the standard of health care, here, and of course the incessant obfuscation and basic lack of interest in transparency, on so many levels. Hillary Clinton described Cambodians as great chess players; keeping everyone on the defensive and in the dark is a national characteristic, and is not reserved particularly for the white dogs (barang shkie), but applied to everyone generally. I enjoy my work giving private language tutoring, marketing consultation and anything else that engages my interest. I began working in “international schools, here, but found that too heart breaking, in so far as teachers are discouraged from helping students with critical thought and building a healthy analysis of received wisdom. Girls, in particular, are still expected to conform to traditional obligations, unflinchingly. Personal empowerment and confidence building is a chief interest of mine. I am encouraged by the strong, independent women I have met here, despite the obstacles and diversions actively installed on their route to personal and social development.
Many of my friends are expats, though few are English. I have the distinct advantage of being a French speaker with allows me to mix in a broader circle. Many brits, Aussies and Americans amongst the expats, sexpats and deathpats can be a little cynical, maybe even jaded, sometimes, but, hey.
I have a dry sense of humour.
I like it here.
I don't want to hurt anyone.
Don't take me too seriously.

We decided to move to Sihanoukville 2 years ago. We started a Service Center to help newcomers to avoid all usual traps.

I have just completed my TEFL course and I am considering to teach English in Cambodia. Although I have been researching and receiving mixed reviews on increase on requirements and visa laws.

I do not obtain a degree, although many sites are still advertising for jobs working without one.

I have work experience working with disabled children, and I feel that this experience would be beneficial to becoming competent teacher.  I am looking for 6 - 12 months.

Any information would be appreciated
