yes, if work as an employee in China,聽 needs at least a bachelor's degree,聽 now, even more,聽 perhaps a master degree...聽 However,聽 as a investor,聽 there is no limits on education background requirement,聽 but different areas do require minimum invest amount to proceed.聽 聽BTW,聽 now China govornment only prefer BIG amount investment & high-tech industrial investment.

Yours is sort of a unique situation and my recommendation is get a lawyer to help you.聽 You will be investing money here in China and your business will employ you, so to be on the safe side, have an attorney help you with this so you do it right.聽 Just my two cents.

@Valachio聽 you can set up a fully owned company in your own name with 100% ownership. There is no requirement for investment, just any amount pledge as your Authorized Capital. And yes they do require u to submit educational certificates. I did set up recently only.

Two basic options.

[1] Repatriate back and reclaim your Chinese citizenship. Pay the five yuan and set up your own company.

[2] Set up a WOFE as a Canadian. Then travel to China on a visa associated with your company. Let it be well understood that this second method is much more difficult than the first option. To which I would advise a Chinese attorney to assist you. Attorney fees will start at 20,000 yuan, and you can expect a budget WOFE for under 75,000 rmb.

I setup a corporate concierge business in Beijing years ago to help business expats with doing business in China, as well as help their family to acclimate in their new environment.聽 I first established a Sole Proprietorship in America since I was the only person working the business with contractors.聽 I did not have a degree and the Chinese government would not give me a business license without one.聽 I hired a lawyer and he found a way.聽 He said that I can own the business and work for the business, but I must have someone that has a degree to manage the business.聽 I hired someone, we were required to open a bank account and keep a small amount in the account.聽 We also had to hire a local native account firm to handle the bookkeeping and the quarterly audits, which taxes were required to pay each quarter.聽 In order to hire someone to work in the business we were required to go through a local agency, even though the person was referred by a friend. The individual had to register with the local HR agency and we contract with them and they paid the employee.聽 We were required to pay for benefits for that employee as well. It was a great and rewarding experience!
