life in Kuching ( Sarawak )

hello
I will be moving along with my family to Kuching ( Sarawak ) by July, I am a Pakistani citizen. the main reason to move there is my children education in Swinburn University. I would like to know general information about Sarawak, such as living cost, culture and life style ( as i read that there are only few Pakistani/Indian family ) so how will be the networking. how is security in this city etc.

Appreciate your comments / reply.

Hi there, u will fall in love with the warmth and friendliness of the people in sarawak. The crime rates are lower than those of in big cuties. Swinburne is a great university with top notch teachers.
Thanks Eviette,

There may not be much interaction as this blog and forum are peninsular Malaysia-centric.

You can probably expect a different atmosphere as that area in Malaysia has quite a different representation of ethnicities in the population.

Also, as you are probably aware, Malaysia has 13 states which are self-governing, although all are under a Federal system for some aspects for finance and development.

If you or anyone else is planning to stay in Malaysia under its MM2H programme, please be aware that a separate application is required for that part of Malaysia, and the visa is not transferrable to the other territories.
For COL this website may be useful:

Hi,

I am on my business visa, i have my company registered in Klang.
Do you mean to say that i need a separate visa for Kuching?
I can't say for certain, you would need to check. Foreigners do have to go through immigration procedures when travelling from mainland Malaysia into Borneo.
Thanks, i will check it.
Living cost in Sarawak is much cheaper compare to KL. You can get a plate or noodle at RM2.80-RM3.50,
The people there are friendly and life style is more relaxing! It is not as busy as in KL city.
Enjoy your stay in Sawarak!
Thanks IvyGan

This sound much positive and motivated :)
