This article may give you some ideas. Schools have their fees and one-time payments on their websites. As 6% goods and service tax was introduced on 1 April 2015, this additional cost should be envisaged.

Hi so 8k after tax + accom. School fees are a min of 2k a month even at the cheapest places like GIIS.

A 13 year old in Malaysia can get 4-5k RM per month pocket money, With no real expenses. Their parents paying 4-9k per month school fees and with a 500,000 RM car.Middle class Malaysians. 8k makes you poor by Malaysian standards - not middle class living. If single 8k net you can save if live cheap and dedicated. But with a family? Just trying to put into context. KL is expensive to live in and just don't translate the salary back into laks. If you have a good job and saving well plus considering you will get indian education at home then a move is prob a bad idea, If you are unemployed or have to move then you can live on it. But saving? One case of Dengue (rampant in KL now) and you are massively out of pocket. Don't forget the massive school deposits required that means you will need to bring substantial wads of cash into the country (5k USD just for the school depo and first set of fees at GIIS)

The salary is fine as after schooling its disposible income. RM3k for monthly expenses plus education and rest to save. You may want to look at living in Seputeh if you are being given a choice. Schools have busing arrangements that cost RM150 ish per month. Also need to work out how you get to work as well.

Here at KL the two main cost is home and education, considering your experience salary is bit low even considering that they are providing you the residential facility, but if you consider you current salary it's not that much low. If you get RM 8000 after tax and also get residential facility for free it's enough for you to live well as well as save a good amount compere to what you may be able to save in India with your current salary.

I will be recommend you to move KL is nice place to live.

Yes but how many prospective expats realise that in this situation he needs to bring in at least 7,000 USD to cover first months expenses (including all those up front fees and depo for school)? More if had to pay own rental depo that is 3.5 x rent.

8k net can live on (just). But hardly a lot. With ten years experience it is a poor offer IMHO. For single ok can save (well western expats would easily spend it all but someone dedicated to cheap living can).

For an expat coming to live with 2 kids and with kids in mid range school the upfront cash requirements would be
- house depo - say 900 USD x 3.5 = approx 3,200 USD
- school depo/upfront fees say 8,000 USD each = 16,000 USD
- car rental depo - 500 USD
- first months money to live off 2,000 USD

21,700 USD required up front by a couple with two kids in a mid range school. Cheap car hire. Mid range condo. That is a lot of wonga!

I wonder if many realise that!

Application Fee: An Application Fee of 1,500 RM is payable with each application submitted. It is not refundable regardless of the outcome or withdrawal of application.

Enrolment Fee: The school requires an 17,050 RM Enrolment Fee to be paid in order to confirm the placement of any child (1 fee per family). The enrolment fee is non-refundable.

Early Notice Payback: The school will provide an Early Notice Payback of 3,850 RM to every family that provides a THREE MONTH written notice before the child is to be withdrawn from the school, assuming that all outstanding fees are paid and all text/library books are returned.

EAL Charge: A termly RM 5,000 charge will be applied to all students who the school deems to require additional English support.  This will continue each term until the school feels the student no longer needs the EAL support.
