I wanted to talk about the cost of living here in the Philippines. Where I live is pretty good, I been living here for almost two years now and I don't work, I live off of my retirement and still manage to save money each month. Me my girlfriend and our two children live comfortable, we rent for now but were saving for a new house which we will be building here shortly, were very simple and humble people and don't need all of the fancy items, we know the value of money so we set a budget for ourselves and 95% of the time we stick to it. So if one is smart you can live good here on around $1,000 USD a month and still save a huge amount of money, we also have a small business that is part of our savings not income but savings or asset. Our goal is to have a lot of assets within the next 5 years and it's possible to do only if anyone who want to live here is smart with their savings or retirement and find the right partner to help you achieve your goals, a lot of expats come here and find themselves struggling because they think they can live like a king and that is not the case if your going out to bars and drinking or bar fining girls, your money will not go a long way and also depends on where you live, Manila is a very expensive city because it's the international hub so things there are almost of weatern standards, so try to find a place where your money will go further, like where I live near Tarlac City, it's nice and quite and pretty clean compare to Manila where it is over crowded and full of trash and squatters. Can you become wealthy here sure you can but you have to be smart and invest your money in the right ventures and have a plan and budget, if you don't need it, don't buy it, money is a tool to make your life better so the more you have the more your life will be comfortable. The Philippines is a fairly safe country, the only reason people expats or locals get victomized is because they draw attention to themselves or are in the wrong place, if you don' know where your at then don't venture down that place, keep a low profile and trust me your live here will be good. This is not a poor country by no means, yes there is poverty here and I will give my take on that, education, many people here are not educated due to the fact that they have to work at an early age so many of their education stop at grade 6 or 7 or sometimes lower so they don't have the right skill set to compete for that decent job that those who have higer education have, so many of them come from the province seeking a better opportunity and find out that it's not so, so many of them do not have the funds to get back home so they stay in the big city trying to survive and hence they create a place or squat, this is where the squatters come from that is why the main city of Manila look as if the poverty is running wild full of trash and over crowed, and will this change I hope so one day and also I pray for the day when those who want to come to the city to seek employment will have the chance to get some education or job training that will al lease give them a chance to compete. The Filipino people are very proud, super friendly and hard working people and all they need is a chance to prove what they can do. I'm an American and I love it here and have no plans of leaving only to vist family back home but this is my new home and I believe that this country is heading for big things in the future of course there will be roadblocks which is expected for any middle-income developing country, the Philippines will get their act together and I see a lot of very smart and talented young people who want change will make this country better in the future.
