Question,聽 have you been receiving your passive income for more than a year?

Do you have your bank produce a year worth of banking records that they will sign.

Have your 1040 federal taxes paperwork.

Have statements from your income sources for 1 year.

Yes, retired and receiving benefits for 19 years for Pension, 7 years for SS

Yes, I can produce bank statements

Yes, I have Tax return records

I have a Social Security Benefit letter as well as Pension Benefit Letter

I have 1099 from both Social Security and Pension

I ran by this question by the Houston Thai Embassy.聽 The woman acknowledged that the USA will not verify.聽 She said my documents "may be" accepted but it is the discretion of the local office.聽 聽No surprise I guess

All I can do is take what I have, along with my Thai GF and give it a try.

I'm hoping someone has experienced this.

Any letter you want to submit I would have translated by a recognized translator and stamped. Ask.thr.embassy of they have one or search online in Thaoiland for online services

At one time, for my house book, and I had to translate my passport(!!!)

@Paul_Adams sorry its over the us embacy in bangkok no longer certifys income nor can you obtain a visa based on income however, i applied out of country for thai e visa online and showed my us bank account statements and was aproved for the non o e visa, once in country you will need to maintain for the first 90 days聽 400,000 thb after your year extention you will need to maintain 800;000 thb to extend a second time, there is no way around the system and you cannot i say you cannot do based on income anylonger

Contacting a VISA agent might be able to help you navigate, and convince a local immigration office once you arrive in country. For a fee, it's possible they could handle all interactions with immigration, Secret handshakes, and smooth over any bumps. Difficult, but not impossible. Good Luck.

One thing I have learned.....The hard way and with help here.聽 The rules when applying inside Thailand are different requirements than eVisa or out of the country.聽 I think that is why there is so much confusion about all of this.聽

Somebody tells their honest experience based on outside Thailand that is totally wrong for applying when inside the country.

It's definitely a learning experience and I am running out of time to learn it LOL

Well the visa you ask outside is for 3 months. The extension in Thailand is usually for 12.months. That could be the difference??

I'm not advocating breaking or stretching the rules...but...in my experience, sooner or later you are going to find yourself in a situation where even if you follow all the Rules, laws, and regulations, you;ll end up聽 with yourself neck deep in B/S or Failure...or you swallow your pride, morals and ask for Help.聽

Is hiring a visa agent in the big picture or things really any different than hiring a Business Consult, Lawyer, or making a donation to The Police's widows and orphans fund ???

Enter TH on a 30 - 45 day "tourist visa". Approach your local immigration office, and if all else fails, you still have options. Best to wait until you arrive in Thailand to battle it out.

That happens within all levels of 3rd world countries and Thailand is not an exception

The agent is not a one time hire, they could do you application far away from where you live and for a exorbitant fee

and next year(s) you are on the hook.....stories enough on the internet

It is always praised by people that cannot meet the (mostly financial) requirements.... as they do not have an option

Assuming you have the money, this is not a problem. I did it within a week.

1. Rent a condo
2. Open a bank account
3. Transfer money (800k baht = 23,000 USD)
4. Wait 2 months

From the UK you need 拢10000 in a UK bank for 3 months to get a type O

In Thailand you need ZERO for a Type O

Why am I contradicting myself?

You seem to be confused between the Type O and the Extension

To my knowlesge you cannot directly get a type O visa, or any visa for.that matter, in thailand itself. You can only get extensions in Thailand of existing visa foreifn issued visa or change between visa types and it always has an income requirement.

Let us know how you did that and thousands of foreigner will be great鈥媐ull...

Good morning ...my r茅cent exp茅rience speaks by itself. From France I came on exemption visa in 2022. Got an extension 30 days. Did this out / in Tha茂lande twice. From Tha茂lande I applied for a non O immigrant visa for 90 days. No insurance required at this stage. I had the choice to put 800K in my bank account here or justify of my monthly incombe up to 65000 bath not less with a letter from th茅 ambassy my bookbank and I choosed this option because was not sure after the 90 days what wood I choose for the visa. So this worked fine. No problem to get it as long as you follow the rules.

I know it also depends on the immigration of where you are living as they do not follow the same rules...so I went through an agent to see what is best.

UPDATE.....I applied for a Non O from the USA using the eVisa to the Washington DC office..聽 聽I assumed it would be rejected.聽 However, they only asked me to produce a bank statement that I had $30,000 US dollars in a US bank account.聽 I was surprised at the amount since I had never heard of that.聽 Regardless, I had it and sent in a statement copy.聽 2 hours later I had a 90 day Non O by email.聽 I was shocked but happy.聽 Every experience is different.....This will simplify everything when I arrive in a few weeks

Congratulations! That's about 1M baht. I suppose they wanted to be sure you could afford the trip and the 800K baht you need for a Thai bank account (assuming you go that route).

@rbakker Yes, I was really surprised.聽 When I saw the email, I thought it would be a rejection.聽 I hope to get the one year extension using only income.聽 We'll see how that flies when I get there.聽 Another unknown.聽

I'll take the GF with me to the immigration office where she has already established a relationship with one of the gals.聽 Hopefully it will be smooth sailing.聽 If not, I have everything needed to open a bank account and do it the hard way.

It often turns out to be easier than expected. It certainly was in my case.

@Paul_Adams I have to deal with the Canadian embassy but I鈥檒l tell you what I did because you may need to do the same sort of thing,

the best idea is to check with the immigration office where you plan on staying as to what required documents they want. It seems every Office is different. regardless of what the website says. it can be very confusing but asking the office exactly what list they want speeds things up greatly for you, nothing extra or wasted time

If you ask questions online, people will often tell you to get an agent @ cost of 15 or 20 or 30,000 baht聽 to do all of this stuff but I鈥檒l tell you it is illegal and people doing that are fuelling a corruption problem. Please don鈥檛 use an agent.聽 There is some very reliable Thai Visa help groups, on Meta apps but most of the people are confused or only spouting half known facts.

The paperwork is a little bit much sometimes but it鈥檚 not difficult and things do take time, that鈥檚 OK its not expensive, be patient聽 and have an interpreter.聽 it gives you time to chill out and tune into the vibe of Thailand snd calm down from the energies of the west! LOL

i had to get all my financial documents notarized by a lawyer in Thailand as that was a requirement to send to my Canadian embassy . i am doing the retirement O visa with 65k baht from within thailand. Currently on a 60 day pending, the police are going to visit my home soon, then i get a 1 year retirement O stamp.

get several passport photos before coming, so far ive used 3 in my applications at immigration. Im not near a city very often so passport photos were hard to find.

all those docs you listed are very important so have them notarized and bring them with you.

Do you have health coverage and emergency medical evacuation insurance? I dont need to know聽 your status but suggest聽 that i personally wouldnt be here without it.

i brought a copy on my medical report for a doctor here, a notarized copy if my medical insurance certificate as well as a notarized criminal records clearance, i didnt need any of those but with no plans to go back, I felt that was a good set of docs to have with me

You鈥檙e doing a smart thing, be patient, it鈥檚 worth every minute here in Thailand!
