While discussing some stock market topics with someone, I was asked how the VN stock market works.

Not that I would get involved but how it works for locals?聽 Do they have the equiv of an S&P500?聽 Can people just open an account on line?

A related thing I have wondered when living in another country- can foreigners put money in the US market or does聽 the tax and headache unattractive?

One thing that would keep me from investing in VN stocks is the new law that has a 2% tax on the total sale (not gains). So if you buy 50k work of stock and then sell it at 51k you basically break even. If you buy at 50k and sell at 50k you lots a thousand. I suppose it does incentivize long term holding better than the US market but its just something to consider.
