Hue is a great little city and the weather is great except for August through November when the monsoons hit and the whole city sinks under the flood waters. It is a very friendly and safe city. It has a decent supermarket. The city is bicycle friendly and it takes less than 30 minutes to cycle from one side to the other.

Behind the Citadel is an area where very few visitors see - it is great for a lazy afternoon at one of the many restaurants there.

Hotels run around USD$10-12 per night and I suggest that you go there first and look around before renting a place.

The people you are interning with should be the vest people to help you with housing. If, having tried their recommendations and they don't suit, you can always look around.

Check out Craigs List VietNam there are occasional adverts for accommodation in Hue.

Hue is 4 hours from Da Nang, 5 hours from Hoi An so you should take the opportunity to visit those places. Take the train at least once, get a seat on the left on Hue >> Da Nang trains or the right on Da Nang >> Hue trains to see the best views of the Hai Van Pass.

Arrival in Hue

The closest international airport to Hue is Ha Noi, the two are connected by VietNam Airlines flights.

Hue's airport is impressively known as Phu Bai International Airport but only internal flights land there! It is 15 kilometres south of the city.

Do NOT take a taxi in to the city, instead look for the mini-bus that covers the distance for USD$8. The mini-bus meets every flight that lands.

When you initially land in VietNam, take the opportunity to buy VN Dong (about USD$30 worth) so you have enough for small expenses until you get to Hue - unless you stay over in SaiGon or Ha Noi. The VietComBank gives the best exchange rates in Hue.
