Vietnam firms aid corruption with unsolicited bribes

Seventy-five percent of businesses in Vietnam pay bribes to聽 government agencies on their own volition in order to avoid being stuck in red tape, a World Bank specialist says.

I guess 75% is rather a conservative number. Moving on..

The Saigon Times newspaper quoted lawyer Trinh Trong Tien as saying corruption would continue to flourish in Vietnam as long as firms chose to pay bribes rather than equip themselves with knowledge of law and understand their rights.

What a dumb statement made by a dumb lawyer

75% is, indeed, a conservative figure.聽 90% is more likely, with the exempted 10% being those businesses owned and operated by Party members or their families.

The lawyers...聽 They are the buffoons of Vietnamese society.聽 Typically, Vietnamese lawyers are bureaucratic rejects, due to the lack of political connections.

Hi Julien,

I just find this report amusing. Like that Wild 1 has shared. There are so much bribery going in this country. It will be interesting if fellow expats can share about the problems they face while doing their paper work with the government bodies.

I try to convince myself as it is like paying lawyer in my country. The communist party is dominant so that the government member never changes in VN. After all, nothing is free.

Julien, you need to do nothing.聽 Threads have there own life and will often die a natural death, sometimes moderation of threads breeds comtempt.
