One of the things I love about my home country is that we still have wildlife in its natural environment. Everything in Viet Nam is either traded, eaten or kept in a cage.

Nothing against the messenger, glad he shared this, but it does make me sad to read.聽 So common in emerging countries.

I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy helping with fish & wildlife projects, habitat restoration, data collection for wildlife managers or working in dog/cat shelters from time to time here in Oregon. Teddy Roosevelt is a hero of mine for his forward thinking on conversation, setting land aside for human & wildlife.聽

I love animals as there are times I would rather be with animals than people. I have a real soft spot for dogs as I have trained with them to earn AKC Hunt Test ribbons & titles which takes a real connection & teamwork to so.

I know when I finally make it to VN, I will want to do some kind of volunteer work.聽 It might might be with animals, conservation, or habitat.聽 I am also interested in something in recycling/sustainability/clean water, or something to do with the ocean/sea. I am really open to ideas and am not really sure what kind of opportunities there might be in VN.聽 聽All I know is I am sure it would be fulfilling to try and make a difference even if it鈥檚 a drop in the bucket.

Save Vietnam鈥檚 Wildlife seems like a good cause.聽

Is there a list/website/FB group of volunteer causes in VN to inform expats of volunteer opportunities if one wants to get involved?

In the Da Nang area would be ideal.

Looking at all the interests in your post jimpdxusa & obvious compassion for nature, are you really sure Vietnam is the right place for you??

Some of the wildlife that gathers at this waterhole should be put down or sterilised.

Two women fined $43,000 for involvement in illegal wildlife trade

Update: July, 15/2021

膼岷甂 N脭NG 鈥 Authorities in the Central Highlands province of 膼岷痥 N么ng have fined two women more than VN膼1 billion (US$43,584) for their involvement in the illegal wildlife trade.

Nguy峄卬 Th峄 Hu峄, 49, was fined VN膼725 million for buying six Bengal monitors (a species of lizard found in Southeast Asia and Africa) and keeping them in captivity.

Meanwhile, Ph岷 Th峄 Tr瓢峄漬g, 34, was fined VN膼285 million for purchasing two Bengal monitors, one dead and one alive.

Both of them, residing in Kn么ng N么 District鈥檚 膼岷痥 N么ng Commune, were deemed to have deliberately violated a Government decree on administrative offences in the forestry sector.

According to a separate decree on the management of endangered and rare flora and fauna as well as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the Bengal monitor belongs to Group 1B of wild animals threatened with extinction, meaning exploitation and use for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.
