I think you may find 50cc woefully underpowered, perhaps dangerously so. I'm 80 kg and the last 50cc I rode on could barely carry me over the many bridges in and around D7.

Most rentals will be 100-125 cc, much better suited to your needs. This is, of course, IMVHO.

Please let us know how you fare (bike size, cost, your impression etc).

Well I have no license for something bigger, that's issue.

The Vinfast brand of scooters have a model looks like a Honda Vision they do 90kph 2 up no problem and a full size luggage compartment and step through. I think The second place I sent you a PM has some, if you cant find a 50cc give them a go, he will be more than happy to let you try one for power.

Is Vinfast good brand? Anybody knows some good Korean 50 cc brand available for sale here in HCMC? I remember the case of Korean guy who travelled from Korea to Europe, Serbia with his scooter, then due to some time constraints he sold it to manager of the hostel, and went back to KR. While being quite unrecognizable scooter brand to me (nothing major),the new owner said to me that the bike is quality stuff, and he had no issues with it.

Vinfast great for city work but thats about it, you will not be doing road trips on one, range is way too short.

Here is a sold in VN new. (there are others but not listed)

Without a VN licence your restricted to e-bikes and 50cc.

I weigh 84 kg and never had a problem with my Sym 50cc, but I never went to the mountains, either.聽 I did travel many times from HCMC to Tra Vinh, and there are a lot of big bridges on that route.聽 I can't quite get up to the speed limit on the highway, but that just makes me feel safer.聽 I read that there are ways to make my moto faster, but I'm fine with being slow.

Go slow is indeed the better option :)

Within hcm it is usually pretty busy and there isn't much space to go faster than 50km/h anyways.

If your planning to go out of town, a bit more power would be nice and electric will not be an option due to range/charge limitations.

That Korean scooter was probably a Sym like the one from Paulmsn above.

Great info above regarding rentals.

Just to clarify, rentals under 125cc don't require a VN license; is this correct?

Cheers . . .

Before I got my license I use to rent a Vinfast Klara S from a company in Thao Dien called The Extra Mile. Ive rented from just about everyone in town that has bikes that dont require a license and these guys are by far the best when it comes to customer service in my humble opinion. Its a lot tougher to find a 50cc in Saigon than you would think. The Klara S is an electric moped with a 50cc equivalent motor so you dont need a licesnse and its limited to 48km/hr. Its got some nifty tech and I like that you can pull the batteries out and charge in an apartment.

Edit: sorry just realized this post was from last year but hope this helps someone.

@Aidan in HCMC Now that's a bummer.

@jrharvey That actually helps, cheers. 50cc may be good enough for quick trips in the neighbourhood.

Thanks....
