Pet Relocation from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City - Looking for Advice

KB Vu

Hi everyone,

I鈥檓 trying to relocate my fur baby from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and I鈥檇 really appreciate any advice or recommendations.

He鈥檚 a Labrador Retriever, around 35kg, 7.5 ~ 8 years old, and this would be our first international move together, so I鈥檓 honestly a bit nervous. I鈥檝e reached out to a few pet relocation agents and was quoted close to AUD 7,000, which feels quite overwhelming.

If anyone has experience with pet relocation on this route, or knows of more reasonable, reliable options, I鈥檇 be so grateful to hear your thoughts. Any tips, agent recommendations, or shared experiences would mean a lot to us.

Thank you so much in advance 馃惗馃

Best,

$7,000 AU!? Wow!

Is there a reason you're not able to fly there and ?

I brought my dog a few years ago. We didnt use an agent but I wish we had. DO NOT try this on your own if you value your pets life. Please contact Saigon Pet Hospital in Thao Dien Ho Chi Minh City. They are horrible vets from personal experience and many others but they are the go to pet relocation agent in the country from everything I know. That's what they are known for.

I could go into detail about how my wife and I spent a year preparing and doing every single thing by the book to bring our dog in and in the end when we arrived everything got flipped upside down but thats a long story. Just get a local agent that knows the local politics and has experience. A few years ago the service was several hundred USD, not thousands. Im not sure about now but its likely that 7k AU is from a large international company that most likely is a really poor choice for Vietnam anyways. There are certain ways things are done here to get things running smooth. Saigon Pet Hospital team knows how to get things like this done.

I鈥檇 absolutely love to fly with him myself if I could. He鈥檚 a big boy (35kg) and already 7~8 years old, so the logistics, airline rules, and health requirements make it a lot more complicated than just booking a ticket and bringing him along
