LED Lights for bicycle?

THIGV

Can anyone direct me where to find modern LED head and tail lights for bicycles in HCMC.  I just bought a used simple Martin @ bike to ride about 3 km to work and back but I would like some lights just in case I want to ride at night.  The bike has the light that runs off of the front tire but it doesn't work properly plus its a lot of friction.  I know a good front and rear set can cost about $30 in the US and it would probably cost at least that much to ship here not including duties.  That is as much as I paid for the bike and I hope I don't have to pay that much but I would still like to have a good strong set of lights.

I know when I am on my motorbike at night I am frequently spooked by coming up behind kids riding bikes at night with no lights.  I am surprised more of them don't get hit. I really don't need some hotshot to run me over in a hit-and-run and good lights might help.

Jett cycles have some, they are in district 5.

Saigon Cycles underneath Sky Garden in D7 is effectively a western bicycle shop for both quality and price. I have got my front lights from there.

Be warned though. Front lights don't stay on a bike for long. I have had two ripped off mine so far, including once in the HAGL car park.

Thanks Sygon: This looks like a place for serious bikers but they definitely have what I want (or more so.)  Some of their units look like they could have more lumens than most motorbikes.  I don't go "downtown" too often but I will definitely check them out next time I do.  Thanks again.

Jules:  Thanks for the warning on the front lights.  I hope I will be OK in that regard.  Daytime the schools have guards.  Most of the times I might need the lights is if I am headed home late.  I will probably check out Jett Cycles first as Q7 is a little too far from home.

Hi,

Bought a mountain bike new From Martin here in Saigon...(97B Võ Thị Sáu, Phường 6, Quận 3, Thành phố)... Not expensive and perfect for the city.

It came with a million safety features... the headlight is essentially a high powered flashlight, with a mount for the handle bars... and you can pop it on and off wherever you park to prevent theft.
Smart reflectors are everywhere on the bike....
The seat has a built in battery powered red strobe in 4 modes on the rear of the seat...

And the clincher is....(yeah)...the pedals flash red and orange bright LEDS...on both sides with every stroke.... Haven't seen this before until I came to Vietnam...

So If you can't see me riding the streets of Saigon... then you must be blind...

Needless to say... the Vietnamese are equally impressed in these safety features... I'm constantly being complimented.... as well as the subtle reminders...that "This bike was made in Vietnam"....

So... being that this post borderlines on being "off topic".... I just want to emphasize the importance of having safety features on your bike here in Vietnam....although in all earnest... I'm changing my pedals from LED to conventional because I think they look too ridiculous... ;)

I went to Jett Cycles today and bought front and rear LED's, both easy on-off designs,  for less than 200,000 VND total.  They have them made in China and in their own custom packaging.  The place seemed very professional and had high quality merchandise.  I'm not in the market to buy a bike so I did not price much, but the top of the line mountain bike I asked about was 11M and would have been a lot higher in the US.

Oddly their website lists multiple outlets including one right on my street, but when I went there it was a totally unrelated store that didn't even begin to have what I wanted.  You have to go to Q5.

I installed the lights and rode around the neighborhood back streets.  I follow my wife who jogs.  The lights attracted a lot of interested and appreciative looks.   I think a lot of local people would use this type of light if it was more widely available.  Money can be hard to come by for a lot of Vietnamese but these prices should be well within reach of many.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
