Looking to move to Vung Tau

I am a 60 year old female who is interested in moving to Vung Tau to live for at least a year.聽 I am on my own and very apprehensive about doing this by myself. Is there any support in Vung Tau to assist with this type of move. Also maybe you can advise me on whether this would be a sensible move or not?

Its a big step for me. Jumping into the unknown is my biggest fear.

Good question... hoping there are a lot of like minded expats over there... just need a heads up on what to expect.
I am looking for a new start, new friends and adventures - travelling, hiking etc.

Well there are many people in your age group here. I know a couple who are 64 and 70 years old that have moved here to live.

The unknown is a better thing, than knowing exactly what is ahead of you. Give it a go, it's not too difficult a place to adapt to.

Get yourself a 1 year visa and book a room at one of the Residences here in VT. Give it a go for 6 months and see how you feel.

Vung Tau is a nice little city.
There is at least one retiree on Youtube blogging about it.
Search the Vietnam forum for many tips about moving.
Go here.聽 Search for "moving" with the quotes.
Searching is broken without quotes, giving up on ever fixing that.

I'd recommend giving it a go. I've been to Vung Tau a couple of times with my girlfriend and enjoy the place. We've even spoken about moving there for a while. FWIW, I came here in 2016 for a 3 month holiday and am now still here with no desire to leave. It changed my entire life for the better.

Happy to go for a coffee if you do decide to move!聽 I am in similar situation, 53 and moving next week from Ho Chi Minh fancied living by the sea!聽 Now to find a job, have somewhere to live so that's a start!

Vung Tau has been known since 1870. JK. Vung Tau is a nice city with fresh air and a lot of things to do. Hiking, biking, surfing, kiting, offroading....,you name it, are available. I live in Saigon but I run a small biz there. If you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask.

note that he's running a 'small business' there and I bet it offers those none existent activities listed above.

There is a that has a bar, Russian food and many longboards for rent but I haven't been there when anyone was in the water.

Yeah I took a look on youtube and there wasn't much, a few videos of people Stand Up Paddle boarding on some ripples lol I guess that's what they call surfing here.

There鈥檚 a nice聽 small wave at Hon Chong beach Nha Trang at the moment, but the swell is dropping.聽聽About 2ft +.聽聽聽 Long boards only.聽聽聽There鈥檚 a shallow reef about 200 metres out.聽 The swell is usually only around from November to late January.聽聽 It can get bigger when the storms are around.

The rest of the year it鈥檚 calm.

The main town beach is purely a shore dump this time of year, and crappy water.聽聽聽Water quality at Hon Chong is much better.

Why don,t you take a 2 week break there to initally get to know the place...it might be for you...it might not...a short break could avoid a total commitment if by chance you don,t like Vung Tau......I can understand your apprehension聽 being that way myself...
Check out OCS apartments for long and short stays,it鈥檚 a large apartment block and there are lots of expats staying which might help in view of isolation...it鈥檚 about 300 m from the sea,500 m to Lotte Mart which is a Korean supermarket chain ,You can buy anything there from clothes to fresh food to electrical kitchen items,and there is also a decent cheap restaurant ( if you are not familiar with Vietnamese cuisine) there....walk on another 300m and you聽 are close to the city center.
Just a suggestion...you will have a long flight so perhaps it would be better to overnight,or even a couple of days, in Saigon before travelling to Vung Tau .I can give you details of the bus company Saigon to Vung Tau and also details of the local bus Saigon airport to the city center where you can find the Vung Tau bus...it鈥檚 about 90mins on the bus Saigon to Vung Tau.

For surfing, as someone mentioned, you can try surf club. I have a regular customer from Saigon, he comes to Vung Tau with his board once or twice a year. For offroading, Doi Nhai is a popular spot.
