As a seventeen-year expat living in Costa Rica and a naturalized citizen, the first question that comes to mind is, "Just who is giving you this advice not to retire to Costa Rica" and what are that person's credentials? There's plenty of bad advice available, so it's important to know whose advice you're dealing with.

@praxiswebcam0r ....Nobody is telling you not to move here ! You were given verifiable facts and they were not the ones you wanted to hear.Here is another verifiable fact : It is difficult enough not be on an equal playing field with Costa Ricans and even more harsh if you don't speak Spanish or know how Costa Rican culture/society operates.Heads up, come with your eyes wide open !
