Julien

Hi all,

Newbie on the Dominican Republic forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country,
or to tell us more on your expat projects in Dominican Republic if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

Hello everybody. I am a 62 years old Dutchman. Have just retired from 35 years with the UN, having worked and lived in 12 countries. Am planning to move to the Dominican Republic with my family (wife and 16 year old daughter) this summer and am currently looking for a good place to buy a house or apartment, preferably in a conjunto, and, most importantly, a good international school. Any advice, suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks!!

Welcome to the forums! There are a few forums with school info.聽 Do a search and if you don't find what you need feel free to open a thread on this.

Please note school registration here is pretty early, we return to school in August

Welcome Aboard Peter,

The Abraham Lincoln International school is located in La Romana on the south coast. It is British curriculum and they teach in English. $10,000 / year is the price. Grade 1 thru 12. Graduates go to Canadian, U.S. and European Universities.

La Romana, on the other hand, is a sprawling city of 150,000 people. I am re-locating to Las Terrenas on the north coast next month after 10 years in La Romana / Casa de Campo. Las Terrenas has many more beaches and a jungle feel to it even though it is a vibrant city of 40,000.....

Good luck with your search

Thanks for the info so far! We checked the Saint George school in Santo Domingo and really liked it. But not sure which would be the best place to live not too far from there. To be honest we were a bit put off by the traffic鈥.

@Julien

Hello! I'm a retired soldier looking to move to the Dominican Republic in 1 to 3 years. I get my military retirement in 1 year and Social Security in 3. That also gives me time to pay more on my current mortgage, organize and whittle down my stuff, and research. This forum is part of my research! I'm going to go through the forum topics already covered before posting my questions! Thank you for the welcome!

Marci - currently in Sarasota, Florida, hoping to move somewhere around Miches!

Draperdyne

Hello, my name is Draper. 63 years young,

I鈥檒l be relocating to Punta or Cap Cana, around the beginning of May 鈥26. Ive been in Scottsdale Arizona for about 30 years, before that, Telluride Colorado. I bring with me a variety of skills to share with expats and locals alike.

I hope to forge a living as a handyman, as it is my understanding that truly skilled help can be difficult to find. I am a union master carpenter, having vested 4 decades plying my craft in the commercial construction industry.

I took a sabbatical from the trades at 44 years old and enrolled in law school. I was 50 when i finally finished with a degree. (Grueling).

I despise the BAR Association, so I've kept busy as a freelance Paralegal. (I am a lawyer not an attorney).

I look forward to donning my nail bags and helping folks with their building related endeavors.

Im not sure what the local laws restrict in that realm, so i will likely function on a small scale; contracts less than $1000.

Ive always kept busy on the side, moonlighting as a systems administrator. I am comfortable using Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and Android platforms.

Ive done Data Recovery, forensics and last mile wifi topography, planning, deployment and troubleshooting. I love to see the relief that comes over others when their problem is resolved. It gives me tremendous personal satisfaction.

Im a social butterfly and i love hearing about your journey. Maybe we will meet and enjoy some Cruzan.
