Most of us will tell you to just overstay and pay the "fine" at the airport when you leave. Doing the online process does nothing except prepay the fine.   Some have experienced that they do not honor that pre payment when you leave and head to pay again at the airport departure.

If you choose to do it, any doctor having a "stamp or seal" will be registered. That stamp needs to be on the letter or document they create for you.

I've always just overstayed and paid the fee at the airport.  They no longer take cash for payment so if you go that route you will have to pay via card.  To give you a rough idea of what you will pay I have an old photo of the fines depending on how long you overstay. And they figure how long you have been in the country not how long your overstay is.

30-90 days is 3500 pesos 

3-9 months is 5600 pesos

Again the photo I took at the airport was a year or two old and I think they have raised those fees some but that gives you a general idea.

My inquiry was motivated by trying to be proactive so to avoid any issues that may hinder my permanent residency application through the Dominican Republic's program titled Family Reunification. For the current plan is to begin the application in April or May of this year.

Overstays do not appear to effect residency applications. I have heard of no one even asked about it during residency.
