Shipping furniture to DR

Tigerink

Yes, I have considered all of that. we bought a 5 bedroom 4.5 condo on top of a hill about 2 miles form the Atlantic. We live in North Carolina where your black shoes turn green if you don't run a dehumidifier. So we understand humidity. But I do need to figure out how to get some of my supplies in there or I can't do my art. So, we will contact our L.T. Attorney and the builder who lives half the year in Miami (also humid) and half the year in L.T.聽 Thanks and I totally understand your reaction. Most people move there to retire. Retirement is not in our DNA. :)

So I hear. We did meet several Evangelical Christians when we were there the first time. And somebody said there are more churches there than mosquitoes. I聽 will have to see that to believe it. But I am sure we will find a place to worship.

Regarding crock pot electricity use, best information I can find is that on low, it takes 70 watts, which means for 9 hours of cooking, it would cost about 6.3 cents USD assuming DR electricity was $0.10 per kilowatt hour. Multiply as appropriate if your rates are higher.

@planner

Hi,

Do you have to prove ownership or residence card to ship duty and tax free鈥?

Thanks,

Its a one time exception with your original residency. There are a ton of rules to follow so make sure you understand them

Or -- use a mudanza......no paperwork req'd

With a mudanza, the price is all-in, it includes shipping and any import taxes or customs fees. You'll pay more per pound than you do with a traditional package forwarder (MBE, CPS, EPS, etc.), but that is because you get more service and no surprises when the package goes through Aduanas. Many offer a set price for barrels, regardless of weight! If you have a lot of smaller items that can fit in a barrel, that's the way to go!

We have not used a mudanza yet, but we took advantage of bringing in a container of household items duty-free with residency, and then anything else we need we plan carefully to avoid the $200 threshold for import duty. We've only had to pay it once in almost 2 years of frequent orders!

I use the mudanza quite a lot.... have never had anything weighed.

As DD says, they ship (and even pick-up if local) and drop off at your DR door

A box (2'x2' say) will be about $30-35.

I have shipped furniture, BBQ, lawn mower..... just about everything

All my major appliances are shipped in - they have flat rates for Fridges/Stoves/etc

I find the opposite.聽 They are MUCH cheaper than a forwarder for larger items.聽 I had a $500 welding machine imported through Pick N Send, CPS and Montero Shipping (a "mudanza").聽 Pick N Send was supposed to be a special rate, and express.聽 It took 2 months and $500.聽 CPS was via boat, took 2 weeks and $400.聽 Montero Shipping is $100, and a month or so, but delivery to my door.聽 Huge difference in all of these rates.聽 The mudanza is duty-free.聽 I don't ask how they do it, I just appreciate that they do.

You're right Buck....and weight is never a factor..... ship freight, volume is the critical factor

@WillieWeb Have you shipped anything lately? They charged me $125 to ship a box around that size, and their standard boxes(29"x18") costs $75 to ship...

WillieWeb
