I'm new to this forum and would like to wish you all firstly a happy weekend!

I currently live in the United Kingdom and I'm planning to move to the Dominican Republic this year (still in the early stages, going good so far) and intend to work as a Teacher of English, preferably within one of the larger Cities such as Santiago, Santa Domingo etc yet would not rule out the smaller cities or towns if a good opportunity came about!

Any suggestions on reputable International/ Private Schools within the DR? Feel free to advise!
And of course; where are the most affordable yet decent places to rent an apartment/ house? Broad question but thought id put it out there!!

It will be聽 a pleasure to meet new people on here, share stories, advice and inspiration to one another and of course, once moved to the Dominican Republic in the next coming months *(fingers crossed!!) I would love to join in in any EXPAT events and generally explore what the beautiful country has to offer!

There is a school in La Romana called Abraham Lincoln. It covers grade 1 thru 12. They speak and teach only English. $10,000.00 / yr tuition. There are a host of Expats working/teaching there.

La Romana is located on the south coast, one hour west of Punta Cana. 150,000 people. Affordable rents and access to Playa Caleta. A decent town with a cruise ship terminal, an international airport and located beside Casa de Campo, a vibrant 7000 acre compound rated in the top 10 of Caribbean resorts.

I suggest you google Abraham Lincoln to see what contacts you might come up with. I can help you further on the ground here if you need more info.

Hey there.. There is a mechanic called Greg in Sosua and he is very good at locating very reliable and trustworthy cars as he checks them himself.. Gregs Garage.. Ask any expat in the Sosua area and they are bound to know him

We will be moving to the Dominican in June.聽 Have some questions regarding how most are handling banking.聽 Other topic would be if Landlord requests Dollars rather than Pesos what is the process for accomplishing that in country.

There are many banks here that wil change pesos to dollars and also casa de cambios ... or money exchange shops. You can also have a $ account here too.

I am super excited to see that there is a community going on at home far away from home!! Glad to meet you all!

I am in the process of relocating (once the borders open back up) in either Cotui or Higuey, depending where doors open.

When I visited DR last time, I knew this was my new home. I hold an MBA and I聽 have been practicing Human Resources in Michigan for the past ten years. I have climbed the corporate ladder, like many of us, and I have arrived at a point in my life where giving back is my new passion. So here I come.

I spent my first 20 years in Romania, the next 15 years in Michigan, USA, and ready for the next adventure.聽 I find it ironic that when I was in Romania I hated the English language, because it was too hard to learn; and when I was in USA I disliked the Spanish language as a whole. And here I go - to a nation that Spanish will be my primary language. I don't speak it currently.聽

I will be looking forward to hear about your experiences and valuable lessons you each personally have learned over the years, and if you had to do it all over again, WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY ?
