"Untouchable" econo-socials because of airfare or whatever the problem is involved with the feds saying get on board, 1000 people via 10 flights a day is a typical load for 2 major PR to Miami airlines, so US chartered the same. Easy.
We all remember images of the last choppers out of VN. Those folks weren't Americans and had ZERO contacts. Quad-drupel that image by 100,000.
A few of us are old enough to relate to the "Displaced Persons Act" post WWII. Designed only for 250,000 of desperate displaced Europeans, and so a tad different then here, but the same premise. Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, hungry, no shelter, absolutely coo-coo situation. That 250,000 figure ballooned wildly unless they all wound up in my city, jajajjja. Google "Displaced Persons Act"聽 to learn how so many Euro surnames became common gringo surnames.
Many many many fantastic families became of that relief statute. They thrived in the north in the 40's and 50's where they had contacts or at least ethnic enclaves where they could speak their native lingo and get situated; and where there were jobs. Shit jobs, but jobs, Descendants of whom 70 years later spread all over are now are our elected officials or big employers or abuelos of bery, bery successful families.
The Puerto Ricans stateside who can are getting it done. But, how many little kids or elderly US citizens in the remote poverty areas for generations are rinsing in grey water, hungry, and with tarp roofs over their heads and looking for bleach only due to lack of air fare and the help needed to matriculate, that kicks my ass.
The US can't be the Statue of Liberty anymore, immigration for all who are suffering worldwide is a pipe dream looking at the numbers. But we easily can vigorously be taking every one of our fellows from PR who want, if all would be only half of current US immigration, and with $ help--health, food, schools, medical etc,,for now or until they decide they want to return.
