Got your Bug Out Bags ready?

JimJ

There's a lot of discussion in Bulgarian social media groups at the moment about the current situation in Iran, and the threats to attack Europe if Our Glorious Leaders ever make up their minds to support one side or the other. Given their continuing vacillation over Ukraine, it's probably a toss-up over which dictator they might plump for and anyway they already have plenty of bunkers from which they can continue to run what passes for a government here.

However, the picture for us hoi polloi isn't quite so rosy. Iran has around 2,000 ballistic missiles capable of hitting Bulgaria, plus many thousands of Shaheed drones which have a similar range (and which can be replenished en masse). While the "important folk" are well catered for, the rest of us can rest secure in the knowledge that there are 247 bomb shelters nationwide that are currently categorized as "usable".聽 However, o鈥媙ly 18 of those are classified as in "good technical condition" (Officialese for "they have ventilation and lighting that actually works - and doors that can close).

So make sure you have your Go Bags packed and ready to grab - and think about Ukraine and recent local Balkan conflicts before you say "It could never happen HERE!"

Just where you're going to run to is another question, of course - but hiding amongst the jars of lutenitsa in your 屑邪蟹械 may not offer much protection against a cruise missile...馃槑

Indeed smh

needless to say, i'm no longer headed for Bulgaria or Georgia or any Eastern Europe/fringe border countries 馃樀鈥嶐煉煡 hoping you all will be ok.

meanwhile, stateside they've decided our states don't need to know of any plans of retaliation attacks 馃う鈥嶁檧锔 so those are being withheld by the FBI.

good luck everyone.

Good luck with that... hard to know who's involved with whom. Venezuela has already been taken over by the US kind of by proxy, Argentina is more than happy to imprison people for profit. Brazil seems to have not lost their mind yet. Cuba and ? are next on the list of the US Admin.

Haha well when you put it like that. I have permanent residence there and it's always a little slice of heaven when I go for winter sun.

Tehran's foreign ministry officially declared on March 3, 2026, that any European involvement in the ongoing U.S.-Israel war against Iran would be met with strikes on European cities.

Iran possesses the largest ballistic missile arsenal in the Middle East, with over 3,000 missiles.

Southeastern Europe: Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and the Balkans are within immediate range of medium-range missiles like the Shahab-3 and Khorramshahr (approx. 2,000 km).

Central Europe: Cities such as Vienna, Rome, Budapest, and Warsaw are theoretically within range of Iran's most advanced systems.

Western Europe: Current assessments suggest that while Iran has not yet deployed operational intercontinental missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching London or Paris, it is actively developing technology with a 10,000 km range.

Thank gawd, Austria is a Neutral country.

Iran has also been months, weeks, or days away from a nuke for the last 30 years.

Is it really though in a practical sense?聽

It's a bit like Switzerland.聽 They cooperated with the Nazis.聽 And Sweden was always tacitly engaged in neutrality but still helped the Allies in WW2 in critical areas.聽 Ireland was neutral on paper but definitely worked with the British as it had no real choice as for them, it was sleeping next to a lion and the top part is British territory.

If there were chemical, biological or nuclear weapons used, the aftermath would not spare anyone.聽 Chernobyl pollution went everywhere regardless of borders.

Austria often seems to be at the centre of international intrigue.聽 Not complaining, just saying.
