Hello everyone, I'm new and I have some questions about immigrating to France but I'm not sure what section of the forum to post them in. Anyway, how realistic is it to immigrate to France? It's my dream to move to France, I LOVE it there. But I've been researching about it and it seems basically impossible. But it seems like the easiest way of becoming a resident and citizen over there is by going to university over there since I believe if you go to a university in France for at least 2 years, you only have to live in France for 2 years before applying for citizenship.

So I have some questions about becoming a French citizen through going to university there..

1. Do you need to be enrolled in a French university, or does studying abroad in France count as well?
2. Do you have to go to a university in France for 2 years, and then wait another 2 years to apply for citizenship, or can you immediately apply for citizenship after attending 2 years of a French university, since you've been there for 2 years?
3. What are some good careers to go into in France?
4. Are American degrees recognized in France?

Hi!
Sadly,immigration to France is more or less difficult depending on where you come from...
In any case,in order to get a student visa you have to study in a French university/school in France.You need to do the inscription formalities from where you are now.
I have never heard that you get citizenship after studying for two years,sorry....
You get that if you are married to a French,have a French parent-or if you join the foreign legion (and that is NOT an option I recommend....

)

Thanks for your response. Applying for citizenship in France after studying for 2 years in France is mentioned on several websites.. including this website: under "Acquiring French nationality", it says "The above-mentioned five-year period may be reduced to two years if the foreign-born person successfully performed two years of higher education in France."

Yes,I read your link.frankly,I wouldn't count on it.As is says,it is not an obligation:they don't give citizenship to all those having studied for two years.You're not even sure to get it after 5 years of residence.It is a possibility mentionned in the law,that doesn't mean it is applied.
anyway,if you want to go to聽 France,you'll first need a student visa.But what is your goal?Immigrate to France,or just immigrate?I'm asking you that because France is really not the easiest place to obtain citizenship,or even a workpermit.We all hope some things will change after the elections in 2012..
