Today's Weather

Update:

We're seeing signs of "improvement".

It's now 5C, the snow is melting, but of course, it's really wet, slight breeze from N, 1.7 m/s, raining a bit 0.5mm since midnight.  Sunset 16.41h

Now the big news:

Snowdrops!  We've got these in our garden and they're now out!  And we're seeing shoots from the daffodils as well.  Tulips will be next.  The snowdrops must have been below the snow, getting ready.

4C and we have heavy rain now and more forecast for the whole morning/afternoon, clearing this evening.  I just took my grandson to school, had to get my old Barbour jacket out, I've had that over 30 years and it still does the job.

Nowt wrong with old stuff that does the job.

We walked the dog yesterday. I was telling Mrs Fluffy my walking boots are 30 years old.  They've had new laces and I've sprayed them more than a couple of times with waterproofing.  I've got a Berghaus coat and that's 25 years old.  The zippable liner (fleece) I got glue on from construction work so that's not for best, more DIY now and car repairs. I use these old items when walking the doggy as we can get muddy.

It's 6C today, very sunny, wind quite high, 3.5 m/s from WSW, Sunset 16.42.   The snow is disappearing fast.  Yay!   It might be gone in a couple of days.

Big question today is if the bin men turn up. Will they? Won't they?   They changed the collection day and now everyone  in the street is baffled as to when the new timetable takes effect.   That's the one thing they didn't tell us.  Tomorrow it's Xmas tree collection.   How exciting! We're all on edge over it and it's filling our empty and meaningless lives slumming here in Hungary.

It's cold and wet here; I froze my butt off disconnecting our car this morning, but happy wife, happy life.  Now home alone for the next 8 hours, I wonder what mischief I can get up to, once I've tidied up, un packed the dishwasher, hoovered, dusted, play with Boris.

If I am alone I usually end up nodding off in front of my laptop and time wasting.

There's always tidying up here.  Put the rubbish out, hoover, collect all the teenage glasses half full and half noshed food.

There's always reorganising. Of course reorganising shows failure of past attempts at organisation.  We've got a lot of storage boxes to store things we don't know we need.  When we decide we're going to dispose of those objects, we find ourselves with empty storage boxes, we find we have to store.  We've been in this house 10 years and we're still working on organising it.  I asked my bro about it and he said he's still reorganising after 20+ years.

There's no hope.

We think it's doggy time but it's drizzling.  Do we go or not? I think maybe we do.   It's 1.7mm since midnight, 3C and sunset at 16.47h.

Good news is we are nearly over January.   Bad news is I have to go long haul to work this evening.  But where I am going is a lot warmer, 22C during the day but only about 6C at night.   So the usual question, what to wear?  It's difficult and I have a luggage allowance which is not enough for winter clothes for evening and summer clothes in the day.  Oh dear!

Update:

The snow in the forest is now given way to ice on top of the snow. It's slow melting in the forest.  In the valley, it's 3C but on the hills and in the forest, it's 1.5C.

It's extremely hazardous walking.  I'm using Nordic walking sticks and I really needed them.  Extra legs. Made me think Jake the Peg. Tiddle-iddle-diddle-dum.

So Mrs F and I cut it short and came back after only 30 minutes.  We only managed to do about a mile.  It's about 1/3 slower than normal due to the treacherous conditions.
