Hi, I am new to this forum so please let me introduce myself first.

I am dual US and Italian citizen living in the US; my wife and I own a property in Italy.

My wife is a US citizen; we are trying to get her Italian citizenship (via ius matrimonium), but we miss some documents.

I am retired and travel back and forth between US and Italy (for <6 months for tax reasons, among others).

My wife will retire in a couple of years and travels less because of the limitations of her tourist VISA (90 days/180 Schengen rule).

My question is how she can stay in Italy for periods longer that 90 days but still <6 months in a calendar year?

Elective VISA? Any other options?

We do not plan to change our residency to Italy.

Hi,

I hope you聽 speak some italian.

On the comune di Prato website I found that the documents to ask for the italian citizenship by marriage (for you spouse) should be:

- Estratto dell'atto originale di nascita

- Certificazione penale

- Ricevuta bollettino versamento

- Atto di matrimonio iscritto/trascritto in Italia

If living abroad (not in Italy) your wife should be able to ask for the italian citizenship after at least 3 years of marriage.

Thanks. I surely speak Italian.

I am aware of those requirements but unfortunately my wife misses the 'certificazione penale' from the country where she is originally from.

I was wondering if there were other VISA program she could use to stay longer than 90 days.

Do you already know this law firm?

Note: I do not sponsor in any form such law firm, i only stumbled on their website after searching (on google) 芦italian citizenship by marriage禄.

If your wife is an american citizen residing in the US, the site I stumbled on writes "Criminal background checks from applicant鈥檚 residences since 14 years of age and FBI" is one of the documents required for the italian naturalization

As you are an Italian citizen with a home in Italy your wife could, in theory, ask for a permesso di soggiorno for motivi familiari which will allow longer stays - as long as she is with you.聽 You are not resident though, but are presumably inscribed in the AIRE?聽

Thank you for your response. Indeed, we are also looking at permesso di soggiorno for her as an option. Yes, I am registered with AIRE, and our home in Italy is in Scicli 馃槈
