At the moment we return to England about every 6-8 weeks to catch up with our close family and friends. Already feel accepted into the community and have made acquaintances and friends.
Single US Expat, lawyer and entrepreneur, born, lived and worked in NYC but most of my years in San Fran. Traveled and lived all over the globe. Moving to Ceglie Messapica in May of this year. Look forward to meeting other expats, making friends.
I think I posted my introduction on another thread, but here I am!聽 Currently we live in Southern California and are planning to purchase a small trulli/lamia/casale in the Valle d' Itria area at some point this year, with plans to move permanently to the area somewhere down the line.
My mother is from the Basilicata area and my father is from Sicily. I am applying for dual citizenship and learning italian. In the states I work as a psychologist and my husband Tony is a civil rights attorney.聽 We love the Apuglia area and have decided to stay in the south. We both hope to work at least part time when we finally move there...but for now, we are looking for a small "retreat" to escape to several times a year!聽 聽So happy to be on this site.聽 Molto Grazie!聽 聽angela
I am pursuing dual citizenship status ,currently living in Georgia U.S.A.
My grandparents were born in Caserta,Campania and of course, a prerequisite
involves the gaining of their marriage and birth records.
I'm thinking of gathering all other essential docs, and then traveling to that
location to personally attempt their capture (documents).
If anyone has any experiences to share, or knowledge on the matter, I would be
very grateful.
Meg
I am applying for dual citizenship as well.聽 I am using MyItalianFamily.com for assistance.
All four grandparents were born in Italy but only one of them became Naturalized citizens. Fortunately, my sister had many of the documents so it was relatively easy. I also found my grandmother's signature on the Ellis Island ledger.
That said,聽 MyItalianFamily can help you with the documents if necessary.聽 It isn't cheap, but it does save you time. I sent in what paperwork I had (names, dates, towns they came from, etc) and they will determine what else you will need to establish your eligibility. I have an interview with them today to determine what else I will need.聽
go to their website and just start reading....
buona fortuna!

I'm currently working on obtaining my dual citizenship through jure sanguinis. Last April I decided to quit my job, sell my house and do what I love! I've been traveling since, but I keep ending up in Italy. It must be in the family connection, I've decided to make a home there.
Looking forward to meeting new friends and working on my Italian!
I will be retiring in approximately 2 to 3 years. As this date approaches I am examining situations and places for relocation. Italy is one of them. I would appreciate hearing from other Americans, especially anyone from the Midwest, about the process of immigrating, cost of living, healthcare, drivers license, etc. Why the preference for the information from those from the Midwest? Because revenue and assets generated from California, NYC, Seattle are outliers. Nonetheless, all information would be valued and appreciated.
My name is Denise, I'm a young retiree who has decided to spend the next couple of years in Italy to experience a new culture, language, lifestyle. I am from London and go back to see family and friends pretty often.
Whilst I'm here, I live in Silea, Treviso and am keen to meet other expats especially to help with learning the language. I am curious about many of the places, opportunities and activities Italy has to offer and hope to meet new and interesting people to share experiences and spend time with.

聽 Hi everyone here,I'm a newbie in this expat forum and this is my first post,I'm italian and at the moment I live near Venice but usually I travel and move within most European Countries .I spent almost a year in Germany working near Stuttgart and several times in London,UK and Barcelona,Spain as well as for working. And lots of other Countries as a student/tourist even if rite now I'm confinated here in quarantine like most (or I better say all of us perhaps).OK,just for say that if somebody needs any help or info regarding crazy italian way of life I'm here to give some help (no money or marriage or housing and stuff please).Fell free to ask and sorry for my bad writing,I'm a little out of practice about English.
聽 Bye and take care (covid-19's everywere)Last time I had a lover in Italy-wish I did this time as well! I need help! 馃槂
I'm also an Expat from the San Franciso area and spent 4 years in NYC once upon a time. I've been living in Italy for ages but I'm wondering are you planning to obtain residency in Italy or just the 3-month visa. I'm asking for a fellow American friend who would like to know the procedure and is having difficulties getting the information. It would be great to hear about your experience.

When we're able to leave the area we hope to see some properties in your area eg. Cortona and Montepulciano, we have also looked at Todi in Umbria and Abruzzo. We would welcome any feed back?
It sounds like you have settled in well, would love to know if there are any pitfalls we should be aware of, any advise would be appreciated.
My husband is also from the UK so we also plan to go back on a regular basis.
It would be great to hear from you and maybe even catch up for a coffee/wine one day in beautiful Tuscany.
Deb and John.
How goes it? Do hope you're managing to make the best of lockdown. I'm a London expat also living near Venice. The virus led me to take the decision early in March, to go聽 back to London to be with family for lockdown. I'm hoping things improve in Italy and the U.K over the next couple of months as I'm keen to get back. Would be good to keep in touch.

We invite you to read the forum code of conduct
Hope you鈥檙e able to start looking at properties soon, possibly in a month !
Whereabouts are you lockdown, are you renting at the moment ?
I am a doctoral student attending university, moved to Milan 6 months ago. I am from India, and聽 lived in Japan for short time as an Intern, and loved the experience just like the one in Italy.
I am also looking to meet new people and make friend and get suggestions, recommendations of the places and events nearby. I like to explore and understand people and Cultures, I believe this exposure helps in widening my perspectives.
Our main issue at the moment is trying to get get聽 planning聽 permission for a pool. But it would only be the sand in the UK. Plus everything has been held up because of the lockdown
We love Montepulciano , but for us it was still very English and is even nicknamed Chiantishire. Cortona is lovely too . We like to have mainly Italians around us and their customs and have made good friends here.
When lockdown is over it would be good to meet For coffee somewhere and exchange tips.
Stay safe and remember Andra Tutta Bene!
Where are you located in Tuscany? And how have your found the settling in period?
Where currently living in Gatea which is between Rome and Naples on the bay, we would love to buy here but it very $$$ so will need to look elce where.
We hope to get to Abruzzo, Umbria, and Tuscany in the next week or so to see if they feel like a good fit.
Thanks for the getting in touch.

I鈥檓 not far from Venice, my husband and I live outside of Verona in Valpolicella. I hope you have managed ok during the lockdown. I鈥檓 from the U.K. also and we鈥檝e been in Italy for a few years now. Whereabouts are you? Charlotte
We are in Tuscany about a 20 minute drive from Volterra and just over an hour to Pisa airport.
We鈥檝e been fine during lockdown- very impressed with how the locals have dealt with it so responsibly.
Our town which is less than a five minute drive from us is a very friendly and welcoming community- we have felt very safe. We鈥檝e had plenty to do as our property had quite a bit of land that needs tending .
How鈥檚 it been with you
My wife, Kathy, and I are at the very beginning of our journey. We are 68 and 70 years old and retired. We hope to get an Elective Residence VISA, stay for a year, come back to the states to sell our house , then go back to Abruzzi for good.
I don鈥檛 even have a passport yet! I will request an appointment date this week. We just started trying to teach ourselves to speak Italian this week.聽 We are completely new to the process of becoming expats in Italy and are very intimidated by it all. But we keep getting signs that we鈥檙e doing the right thing.
We are heartbroken by all the suffering we see all around us. And very concerned about the current chaos in the US.
We are hoping we will have a chance to join you.
Namaste,
Bob
