Hello Eli007, welcome to 大咖福利影院! :)
Maybe you should enquire with the police station; maybe either your Australian licence or your international licence could be converted to an Italian one?
Hope this helps

Hi Eli!

I just wrote about my driving licence experience in Rome. (might be the second last blog, scroll down)

Unfortunately, you cannot do the test in English anymore (as of Jan this year). I missed the mark, and had to do it in Italian. Its not easy, but if you practice a lot (like someone else said , lots of practice sites on the net) you can do it...especially if I can. My Italian was quite basic, but I kinda learnt more Italian this way! lol.

Technically like someone else said, you cannot drive with an International licence once you are a resident here. But I know many people who get away with it, unlike Canada there aren't cops hiding in corners waiting to catch you, so its a but easier to get away with. But my mind is at least at ease now when I drive now that I have the Italian driving licence. Plus I can drive a scooter up to 125CC with this licence too...woo! :)

Anyway, I have some links on that blog post too that might help.

Good luck!
