Information about Newark Senior School

slacah31

Hi to all,

First of all thank you very much for such an amazing amount of information shared with people thinking of moving to Malta. It has benefited me a lot.

This is my first post and I would like to ask for advice/opinions regarding Newark Senior school, in particular, overall experiences, the average class size of the 15 year-old group (since I have heard about the small amount of students per class), and last if anyone has had the opportunity to visit the new school premises -apparently to be changed for the next school year?

Thank you very much in advance,

Astrid

Hello,
We are a family moving to Malta in less than a year, school is off- course one of the main issues. Could slacah31, Fiby or anyone for that matter give a bit more info on San José Secondary as the initial question has not yet been addressed?
Experiences good/bad, how the new facilities turned out, number of pupils, number of parallel classes, fees (for 12 and 14 year olds) etc.? Thanks in advance!

Fiby

Hi VJB,
I decided to move my children to another international school.
So I do not have further information to give you, I visited San Jose school once and I think it is a bit small for senior school.
If I remember correctly for registration must be 800 euro and 800 euro per term.
I do not know if anything has changed.

VJB

Thank you so much, Fiby for your quick response!
Which one did you pick?
Let's hope Astrid sees this and can provide some more information! Or, shall I start a new topic instead?
Regards,
VJB

Hi VJB,
sorry I didn't see your post earlier.
Last August I went to the new school premises I didn't like the place at all. It is a very small old building with little space for pupils to move around, to eat, etc. They've changed the school name to San Jose Secondary School. The headteacher told me that the number of children per class -for 14 years old pupils- was 7 which in my opinion might have a high impact in children's social life at that age -especially for foreigners- as the range of opportunities to socialise with other children is diminished. The school brochure provided was very basic if compared to extensive material given by other private schools in Malta. There were gaps in the answers to some of my questions related to the academic programme. In other private schools I was told that older children -15 years old as my daughter's case- might choose from a group of subjects already specified in the school options and that in her choice she might drop off Physics if wanted and replace it for another subject included in the list. San Jose headteacher said that in Malta such option is impossible, I tried to explain that children may have the opportunity to decide what academic path to follow but he then insisted that Physics is a subject that every child must learn in life whether they like it or not... and so on.
That was my experience, if you have further questions just let me know.
