Just need to know everything about moving to Malta 🙂

Johnxr3

Hi All

I’m new to the forum, I’ve wanted to move abroad for a number of years and after visiting Malta this year I would like to know more about moving there, I’m an employed skilled engineer and I was wondering what employment was out there in this field, I’ve also been considering taken a PSV or HGV license and again was wondering what the scope was for this in Malta.
Thankyou

Welcome to the Forum, nobody can say at the moment what the job situation will be as many businesses are closed because of the virus. Hopefully there will still be positions available but who knows.

Hi

This is something that I’m hoping to do late 2021, early 2022 so hopefully we’ll see some significant changes by then, thankyou for returning the message

HGV drivers are, before the virus at least, in demand here - lots of construction and also lots of long haul supply routes.

Engineering depends on what kind of engineer.

Johnxr3

Hi

I’m a skilled machine shop engineer, turning , milling , and maintenance etc, as well as City and Guilds qualifications in toolmaking.

There is probably demand but it depends on how the maltese will validate your qualifications and I suspect many of these jobs would require you to know Maltese. So if you're serious about moving here and working in those industries you might use your time to learn that.

Generally, post transition date things are a bit unknown for how moving here will work for you coming here. Before transition its really easy

Johnxr3

Ok, thankyou for that advice, that’s something I will look into, as I say, I’m new to moving abroad so any advice is gratefully received

There are topics on here regarding moving which you may find useful if you use search, bearing in mind things may change because of Brexit.

Thankyou, there’s so much going on at the minute it’s difficult to know where to start

Hi John,

Happy to see that you've taken a liking to our great island. What I can tell you regarding the job situation, and the situation, in general, is that our government is taken all possible steps, and our recoveries are exceeding our cases. This being said, it could still be a while until the situation calms down.

What I can also tell you is that being a skilled worker (engineer), your job prospects are very high and could be hired by a number of large companies offering attractive remuneration packages.

May I recommend these sites to get an idea of job openings:
careerjet.com
jobsinmalta.com
maltapark.com
maltajobs.com.mt
Castille recruitment
and obviously, LinkedIn

I hope you keep safe in these turbulent times, and that you soon come and enjoy what our beautiful island has to offer!

Kindest regards,
Adam

Hi Adam

Thankyou so much for taking the time out to message me, I visited Malta in February before this terrible virus took a hold and I was blown away, such a beautiful island with so many different aspects to enjoy, stayed in St Paul’s Bay, definitely going back for a second visit but more so to research me living there, I’m glad that my skills would be beneficial as I thought that such a small island wouldn’t really have the demand for engineering and a career change would have to be found, once we get back to some kind of normality I will definitely be in touch.

Keep safe

Kind regards

John
