Pre-existing health condition and new health insurance

We are looking at moving to the Netherlands and will need an insurance that allows pre-existing conditions. My husband may work as self-employed聽 (engineer) or he may choose to work as a permanent employee.
1. Is there an agent/broker that can work with us?
2. Do all insurance companies have to provide for pre-existing?
thanks

Hi Nadine and welcome to the Forum.

I love easy questions:

Health Insurance is compulsory in the Netherlands; you have no choice and have to make arrangements within 4 months of arriving.聽 There is no point in putting it off to try and save a few months contributions, you will be back-charged to your date of arrival.

As in all healthcare plans, you get what you pay for and if you can put up with the restrictions, you can get a pretty good deal.聽 On top of the monthly insurance premium, you are also personally responsible for the first 385 euro of your annual costs; after that, you still pay, but your Insurance will start to refund you the costs.聽 Some companies will offer their employees discounted rates with specific healthcare insurance providers.

To answer your specific questions:

1. Yes. kind of; check this .
2.聽 Yes, they cannot deny you coverage for any pre-existing conditions.

Hope this helps.
