I'm an American wanting to move to Portugal on the D7 visa

JoeyGelato

Greetings everyone!

I'm an American wanting to move to Portugal on the D7 visa. I'm currently living in the US, however I would like to move to Mexico temporarily before applying for the D7 visa. I'm aware that the D7 visa requires that I apply in my home country.

I'm considering moving to Mexico for 6 months, and flying back and forth to the US to file my D7 application and attend any required appointments during that time. Would this be possible, or could it cause problems in the D7 application process?

When moving to Mexico, I would change my mailing address in the US from the one I have had for years to a new address. Could this cause any problems?

Nice to meet all of you, and thanks in advance for your help 馃檹

Welcome,

I'm not sure but would have thought that if you have a new address in US of A and have all your " paperwork" registered with this new address ie everything with the same name and address AND only consider visits to Mexico as holidays then all is in order.聽 It would only make problems if changing address during applications due to obvious confusions.

Thanks @Strontium. Once I go to Mexico, my US mailing address will change and be different from the address on my documents.聽

People move and change addresses. Do you think this would cause my D7 application to be denied?

People move all the time, why would it affect your visa? Do you mean you are changing addresses to Mexico?

Hi,

It shouldn't make a difference to your application outcome BUT administration wise things here can be inconsistent and get delayed if there are decisions to be made - like "is it acceptable to have a mailing address different from residence address?".
