Wise might be a good option

We are retired and use wise to transfer our pensions from the uk to Portugal it’s done instantly with no hassle.

check them out it may be the right choice for you who knows.

They say for a large quantity of money, do a wire transfer through your bank. If you open an account with Charles Schwab, wire transfers are only $15. I use Wise for smaller amounts less than $5000.

Hi. I found Wise troublesome and had to leave poor feedback on trust wise. Took my money out of Wise after having to resubmit ID and source of income documents. 72 hours for tel call to be answered. Now use Atlantic money who give the best of all and hassle free ID check and initial £30000 without any source of income documents. Further funds options by simply sending bank statements and salary pension, savings statements.

I was able to open an online account in Atlantico.eu and was able to transfer money with ease. They do charge about 22 Euro for each transaction. I have an app on my phone, but they have only branch in Lisbon.  Mostly online banking.

Hi,

You would need to open a bank account in Portugal. In order to do so, many will tell you you have to Be in Portugal to do it, but NOT TRUE.

You will have to get a NIF number in Portugal (like a US social Security Number). and then open a bank account.

@MrFitz   Tom is correct. There are a few smaller banks that will open an account if u are in the U.S. It takes a few months, and there is paperwork, but I did it with Banco BNI.  You can also do it for a fee with a lawyer or an online broker like Atlys.
