Portuguese D7 and Passed Marijuana Felony Conviction

mrastatter

Hi there.

We would like to migrate to Portugal in the coming months and will be filing for a D7 type visa.

Issue: I was convicted of Felony Marijuana Possession in Dallas Texas in 1973 (51 years ago). Have had a clean record since.

Will this past conviction prevent me from getting a D7 Residency Permit.

Please advise your thoughts or (better yet) a solid source I can access before proceeding down this path.

One of the visa requirements is this one:

- Absence of conviction for a crime which in Portugal is punishable by a custodial sentence of more than one year;

If the conviction had been 25 years ago or less, there would certainly be a problem. As yours was more than 50 years ago, it doesn't seem to be a problem, but I'm not sure. Try contacting the people in the link above and see how it has gone with them.
