cat hotel -- the good price to charge?

Ms.Kamado Neko

Hello Expat friends in Portugal

I would like to ask a piece of advice!

I am thinking of opening a CAT HOTEL in my apartment cause I

have a vacant room.  It is going to be a complete Suite for

one to two cats thus they will not be in a box! How much would be a reasonable price

to charge? I think 40 euro each cat per day, two cats 70 euro per day. (Food not included)

Do they sound attractive and competitive?   I imagine any cat owner has a sense of pity when they leave their cat in a cage during his-her holidays..

A big room will only for them,  and a client could bring in their cat tower or cat bed, cat blanket anything they want.  The place is a bit out of center Lisbon...but in Cascais area. so with Uber it is like 15 euros to reach here.

Thanks for Expats help!

Hi @Ms.Kamado,

Welcome.

In the Lisbon and Cascais area, even high-end "luxury" cat hotels usually charge significantly less than €40 per day. But it's up to you. Demand always adjust prices....

Eg.

Important Portuguese Regulations

Since you are doing this in an apartment, there are a few "hidden" hurdles to be aware of:

  1. The "4-Pet" Rule: Portuguese law generally limits the number of pets in an urban apartment to 4 adult animals total. If you have your own pets, they count toward this limit.

  1. Condominium Rules: Check your building's Regulamento do Condomínio. Some buildings prohibit commercial activities or have strict noise/smell complaints policies that could get a business shut down quickly.

  1. Tax/Legal: To be official, you should open an "Atividade" (Sole Trader) with the Finanças under the code for "Animal Care" to issue invoices (recibos verdes).

Dear JohnnyPT

I do appreciate your advice! I saw both of the links and come to terms that I am not either competitive or professionally-dedicated to those services. Better not to challenge this side business.  "Demand always adjust prices..". True!  The fact is my service will never be at the level of these suite hotels..  Any other way to make the best use of a vacant room, I must come up. (I am a bit fed of with having a roommate..)     Good day and thank you again!  Best,   Kamado Gato
