Hello
Could anyone recommend a translation app for iPhone, that they have used and have experience with, that works well, both written and spoken, translating English into Portuguese.

Many thanks in advance.

Many language apps like Duolingo/Babbel offer Portuguese, but beware—it’s Brazilian Portuguese, which is not the same as European Portuguese. And if you are brand new to the language, it makes sense to start with European Portuguese (if you know Brazilian Portuguese, good for you–you’ll be 90% there). Here are some of apps online resources that are geared towards European Portuguese:

This may not be 100% correct, but it may be a help. I'm not sure if Memrise has European Portuguese... I think so, although Brazilian Portuguese appears in the main menu, at the beginning. You need to check that.

Btw, it’s not free but it does what you’re looking for with written and spoken translation into European Portuguese.

Memrise has European Portuguese lessons. They are very good for beginners, I would recommend Memrise.

I use itranslate, it has European portuguese, I upgraded to the pro version as it allows you to screen shot pages and translate, I find it handy when shopping and reading product labels etc.
Thanks for this -  I did 4 months with Duolingo before discovering this - such a waste of time!
I use Google translate, as and when, but also Tobo PT learn 5 words everyday...I wish.

I make up my own homework using Google translate, tried some lessons and learned nothing.

I seem to find German very easy, but french impossible..Portuguese difficult too. Hey ho!
The best app for european portuguese is DEEPL. (it's also a website )

enjoy.

I had already suggested the Linguee website. If you choose the Translator option, it will lead to Deepl  ;)
You could try Apple's free/included iPhone app called "Translate." It's pretty new (2020), requires iOS 14 or later. It's new enough that a lot of people don't even realize that it exists yet. It's very powerful. But it's Brazilian Portuguese at the moment. For some translation tasks, that doesn't matter; for some things it matters a lot.
