70% of the Scottish population live in what they describe as the "Central Belt"; with a few notable exceptions, the rest tend to live on the east coast.  Glasgow is at the western end of the Central Belt (basically the land mass between Glasgow and Edinburgh, extended out to the respective coasts).  Many people commute across the belt using either train, bus, or car; so, what I'm saying is the fact that you work in Glasgow does not necessarily mean you have to live there, the land mass where people live in Scotland really isn't that big.

To answer your question, the days when high-rise blocks dominated the Glasgow skyline and crime seemed to dominate are gone.  Where you live is really dependent on your neighbours, and there are good and bad everywhere.  My advice would be to find an Airbnb somewhere close to where you are going to work, then use the evenings/weekends to go around and check things out for yourself before you make a decision.  An ex-colleague of mine bought an ex-council property in East-Kilbride, it used to be a place to avoid, today, it's a great place to live.

Thank you Cynic for your advise. I did indeed look at EK,however other forums have left a lot of negative reviews regarding diversity in the area generally. Unsure how true it is but will travel to Glasgow during school holidays to get a better feel of the area.

I would be working from home so ideally preference is child's education, area and access to Supermarkets, towns etc.

@Cynic Thank you. As i belong to a mixed family ( half Indian and half English) current state of Affairs in the United Kingdom requires me to identify as Asian only.There was no option of Mixed so I choose the one which was easiest.Hope this does not make a difference on the advise being sought.

Oh, I wondered what the blended family reference you made meant.  I offered the other options because I'm aware that some places are not so tolerant as others, and perhaps some people have information more relevant than the generic things I can talk about.
