Move to Sohar. Is my salary ok?

Hi, I just received an salary offer to move to Sohar, It麓s 1234,50 OR as basic salary plus 575,5 OR for allowance per month.

I麓ll be taking my family with me, so what I really need to know is if that ammount of money is good enough to live in Oman with my familly.

Can anyone give me an idea on how much do I need to have a decent life in Sohar and be able to save money for the future? Thank You very much.

In short, this salary is considered as a good salary here. But it depends on your living lifestyle, for some this salary is more than good, for some its not enough because they would like to live a luxurious life. For me its a good salary for a good living.

Hi Thenewguy Intown,

Let me first understand the figures you have quoted.

Basic Salary : R.O. 1,234.500 (or) R.O. 1,234,50.000

Allowances : R.O. 575.500 (or) R.O. 5,755.000

If it's the former, you can lead a pretty comfortable life and still save a decent sum of money every month (depending on the size of your family of course).

If it is the latter ... well, in just a short while, you should be in a position to quote your price to buy Sohar on outright purchase !

As advised, suggest you read the Cost of Living forum for details of expenses.

Thanks for Your reply, I meant the first one. Basic Salary One Thousand two hundred an thirty four OMR with 500/100, as well the housing five hundred and seventy five OMR with 500/100. I麓m needing real examples of the costs because I have friends that live in Muscat and comparing with that city they tell me that麓s really low. I麓m trying to set up a budget example on monthly expenses but it麓s kind of difficult because most of the pages refer to Muscat. Thanks on anything you can help.

Hi Thenewguy Intown,

So we are talking of a total monthly income of R.O. 1,809.000. Whether this sum is low or high is quite subjective.

Also, your family size, school going children, your lifestyle, etc., would all play a major factor in deciding if this figure is going to be sufficient or not.

Sohar is relatively less expensive than Muscat is. Roughly you could take the Muscat costs and deduct about 25% to 30% from that to arrive at an indicative cost index.

I have two children and eventhough the company is giving a school benefit at the end I'll have to put down from my own salary around 300 OMR per child. We are not looking for a luxurious lifestyle, but at least We麓d like have a confortable life and as mentioned before be able to save money. A family of 4 how much money needs to spend per month on grocery shopping? also most of the apartments or house for rent come unfurnished, So We'd have to make a major expense just to furnished the place to live. I need to have the most real scenario in order to evaluate the real costs and if it's profitable to move so far.
