Bonjour Gulden,

I want to move to Istanbul after the summer of 2014 and I am already seeking for job opportunities.I am from Belgium, I have an degree in law and criminology but I think my best chances to find a job is in teaching English in a private school?

Is het required or will it increase my chances if I get an Celta teachers certificate? Can anybody help me with this one? Because if it is, I will get it before leaving.

I would strongly recommend you to get your CELTA if you want to work as an English teacher. Language schools usually ask for the CELTA. As for private schools, CELTA is not required if you intend to work in primary schools or high schools but as you don't have a degree in the teaching field, it may increase your chances to get a job. You may also be asked to provide the equivalence of your diplomas in Turkish. For that, you need to contact Y脰K (Council of Higher Education).

I saw that you also teach in a private school? Can I ask how much the wages are over there?
And for the equivalence of my degree's at YUk, do I need to pay for the documents?

Yes, I am working as a full-time English teacher in a private high school. Wages depend on the school and probably on your background and experiences. I can say that it varies from 2000 TL to 3500 TL usually. The translation of your diplomas must be certified before a notary so you have to pay for it..
