Oh yes, and more than this , there is an Epidemic of Fluorosis among teenage kids. There is No Cure for Fluorosis. Teeth become very brittle due to loss of calcium and opaque. They lose regular teeeth color
The communities are very poor and treating these kids聽 will be very expensive. In some casese where the disease is not so advanced we could do teeth whitening, but in the advanced stages of Fluorisis, only crowns or Veneers would suffice.

This is a problem with bottle water in 20 l garrafones as apposed to tap water?

Does filtration help.聽 I bottled or garafon water safe?

Tap water is more volatile, even though bottled water does contain聽 traces of聽 Fluoride , but in most cases does not have arsenic nor other in earth chemicals.
The stable has聽 been opened and the horse has already bolted. They must start cleaning the water in San Miguel de Allende. It's not too late.
About 60% of Adolescent kids in San Miguel suffer from Fluorosis due to the fact that for years the water has not been treated.

From what is available on the internet, the problem areas are not in the city of SMA, but in the rural areas where water is drawn from the deeply drilled wells. City water is safe, so say the authorities.

The aquifer is dropping because of agriculture use and the wells are being drilled deeper and deeper into areas of high concentrations of fluoride and arsenic.

You are partially correct, my friend, but I hate to tell you this. The water is not drinkable even in the areas where rich people live. its egregiously bad in the poor communities,聽 and due to socio-economic challenges they have no choice but to drink the water.

The bigger and most urgent problem is treating this epidemic. The kids need urgent treatment, and I wish folks like you could help me.
My Association Civil, DentalMex Plan, A.C. gets no funding nor donations. It would be nice if you could start a Fundraising for our association, DentalMex Plan, A.C,聽 in your area, We have authority from SAT to give Tax Receipts for聽 Donors who need Tax receipts.
This is the immediate and short term way to help.
Treating the water will take years to accomplish because of politics, but helping these poor kids could be immediate. I am prepared to forfeit 70% of my cost and only cover expenses to treat them.

It sounds like you need to meet with the large number of expats that live in SMA. Some have posted on this blog hopefully they will see your appeal and arrange a meeting with you.

You are absolutely correct, but time is my Greatest enemy. I am doing several projects. i think I should find someone to arrange such a meet probably at the Bibloteca.

No, I live in Campeche, but I understand your problem and talking to some of the expats who live in SMA is the answer. Good luck. Perhaps posting again asking for anyone living聽 in SMA might speed things up.

The Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel has a rain water catchment, reclamation / cistern building project that is fully funded and operational to address the water issues of communities in the campo. Perhaps you should look into it. they have already built thousand of cisterns in outlying areas.

We (The Rotary Club of San Miguel) have helped build about 1'000 cisterns with Rain water collection systems. That of course is a very small percentage of the out laying homes. But is is a start.
