Former New Yorker here. People from Northeast retire to FL to escape the cold and snow. For New Yorkers, NYC can be a very hectic place, so that's an added benefit -- a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Cost of living can be a factor depending on individual's situation. From NYC to FL is often a cost saving.

Live in FL for 4 years now. Its a nice neighborhood in Daytona beach 2 miles from beach. 90% people are seniors. Not an over 55 community but most of them are over 65 now. Very rare to see young people. Most are snow birds from Canada or USA. Our houses here are worth about over 175. Only thing we miss in FL is - 4 season
