Are there restrictions on the number of days that you can be out of Brazil for various visas, retirement, etc?

Residents who hold CRNMs -- family unification beneficiaries, retirees, religious and volunteer visa holders, and so on, lose their resident status if they're out of the country for longer than two continuous years.聽 Returning to Brazil at any point before the two years run, however, even arriving one day and leaving the next, resets the clock for another two years.

Ok, so you can leave for say 4 months per year with no problems? I thought it was similar to some other countries are the maximum of 180 days for the first visa.

That's welcome news

No, that's how the US is, and probably other countries, but Brazil has聽 been very liberal in its treatment of permanent residents for many years.聽 That's probably because Brazil will allow permanent residents to become citizens if they want to, but doesn't really encourage naturalization, much less push it.
