03/03/25  Brazil is not a terrible country for FatFIRE:  the cost of living is pretty low, the climate is pleasant in most of the country most of the time so there are lots of possibilities for outdoor activities, the culture is diverse and fascinating, the people are friendly, and the infrastructure and amenities are pretty good for a middle-income country. 

However, it's a monolingual Portuguese-speaking country and residents without a basic command of the language are at a distinct and permanent disadvantage, taxation in Brazil is higher than it is in several peer countries, and it's far away from most of the rest of the world.

For North Americans, Europeans, and Australians who don't have a specific attraction to Brazil and don't speak and aren't interested in learning to speak Portuguese, there are probably easier options closer to home that would be equally or more economical.

@Pablo888 This is an on again, off again vacation (trying to concentrate on finishing my YouTube Channel, but since my daughter is in Rio for carnival) I am taking a break anyway.

For the record I don`t remember the circumstances that I might have mentioned it. I prefer the term "Comfortable". We are comfortable in our little village in Northeastern Brazil and it did not require any of the methods of Fat Fire or even Fire. It`is called knowing how to take advantage of opportunities when they knock etc.,(see @abthree paragraph one) so we have ALL the benefits of FIRE without the bullet points. Anyway.....

Who is fat FIRE for?

Living large on Fat FIRE might sound like an ideal retirement strategy, but it’s not for everyone. Some people might actually prefer a more minimalist, ascetic lifestyle or welcome part-time job after retirement for the social interaction. However, if the following apply to you, it’s well worth considering the fat FIRE strategy.

1. You want to live in an expensive city, such as San Francisco, New York or Sao Paulo, when you retire.
2. You own a large, comfortable home or condo and want to continue living there – or in equally plush accommodations—after retirement.
3. You plan to travel extensively and stay in high-end resorts.
4. You want to eat out frequently at expensive restaurants.
5. You have an excellent healthcare plan and want to retain this level of care after retiring.
6. You want to be able to take financial care of your loved ones, including children or aging parents.

I lived in Brasil on the 70s, 80s,90, that Fire… will be an option but comfortable enough will not make anyone happier, Brasil is my target for retirement that probably will be soon, this country has a lot of opportunities while here in USA I don’t see it, right now the prices go really up at the point of people are leaving the country and looking for other countries more affordable .

USA is a good country but you need to live in here to know the real truth

Also there is no perfect place to live and comfortable depending on what you are looking for.
