Information on the culture and exploring possibility to retire

StevenStapleton

@Julien

I am headed to Bogot谩 this Friday. I鈥檓 exploring the strong possibility of retiring there. I鈥檓 financially very secure and I鈥檓 hoping to buy a home and do some investing locally if the golden opportunity comes

up.

I鈥檝e lived in rural Kansas and Oklahoma my whole life and I want a radical change; a whole new

world to explore. I鈥檓 鈥済etting the hell out of Dodge鈥. I鈥檇 like information on the culture I鈥檓 going to be immersed in so I don鈥檛 look like some tourist.

Steven.

Hi Steven, we've communicated about Santa Marta.

Just a heads up. I've not been to Bogota yet nor Medellin.

I have spoken to lots of travelers and I get the impression that Medellin is much preferable to Bogota for both climate and beauty.

So be sure to look around before deciding.

Hello,

Climate is an important factor in your decision. Bogota is cold (not Kansas cold, but anyway...), rainy, also, the city is almost 9,000 ft above sea level, so if you have have some health conditions it might not be the best choice for you

Cartagena or Santa Marta are too hot. You may want to explore Medellin, the city of eternal spring

City size is also important. Bogota is a large city, more than 8 million inhabitants

Medellin is a mid sized city (3 million) and has good health care

If you are "Very financially secure" you are probably one of those guys that can afford to lose hallf the value of your property , or maybe the whole thing, if it comes to that

I know guys like you living here.
