I'm a longtime member of expat.com, though I don't contribute much these days. But I've just posted to CCC's recent thread about my family down in Ecuador who are in no danger. The country looks small on maps of the world, but it's actually bigger than the UK. And the banditos can't be everywhere!

I am moving to porto lopes permanently (I hope)聽 I am from USA and been there before. I have been 36 countries and hope to make ecuador my homemade.聽

Hola, and I'm hoping i can get a lot of advice here.

Because of the political situation in the US, I suspect I will want to move out of the country permanently beginning in late January 2025. I moved to India sight-unseen in 2017, and spent four years there before coming back in 2021.

So I am no stranger to living in a foreign country. (I also traveled extensively while there, mostly to neighboring countries.) But after researching it, Ecuador seems like the perfect spot to spend my remaining years, for all sorts of reasons, but its focus on the environment, the Galapagos Islands and the fact I speak enough Spanish that I should be reasonably fluent in six months are three of the top ones.

I have a myriad of questions and will have to be ready to take all necessary actions the day following the November election if worse comes to worse, so I thought I'd better get started.

Nice to meet everyone and hope to meet you some day in person.

I'm born and raised in Canada.聽 Been living in Ecuador since 2006, work in Tourism.聽 Nice to have found this forum.聽 Any tourism related questions,聽 happy to answer.聽 Also, I have a friend who's looking to sell his boutique guesthouse called [link moderated] located in the heart of the Old Town.聽 There are plans to have a craft brewery located downstairs in the next month or two, if you like more details let me know.聽 Also know of another owner looking to sell near the Plaza de Blas, higher end hotel, looking for the right buyer.

Charles here,聽 I am a 79 yr old single male hoping to move to Cuenca,

in a year or so.聽 Presently studying Spanish online. I'm hoping to make

a few new friends in the interim.I enjoy making music , (have been playing

keyboards, [Hard Rock] since I was in my 20's) I like聽 woodworking, building experimental aircraft.

Had to give that all up due to health concerns as medical bills have

depleted me.

Ecuador seems to be聽 the place for my adventurous soul. I'm anything but

an old stick in the mud.聽 聽I don't feel any older than 40-50 mentally, but the body somehow disagrees,

Have survived a triple bypass 23 years ago. and according to my cardiologist,

still going strong! I Like to think I have another 30 years to go.

Hello everybody! Elena from Russia here.聽 I鈥檝e just arrived to Cuenca. Hoping to find new friends. Cuenca seems to be a very nice place to live, we鈥檒l see. My children grown up, I wanted to start the new page of my life. I鈥檓 really impressed by the nature in Ecudor. So many tropical plants at 2500 m! In the mountains. And the local people are very very friendly.
