New Mexico Expat? Hoping to Be?

lannie loeks

Would love to hear from any New Mexicans who have made the leap. Or if you are working toward moving ~ I'd love to form a support/study group if you are interested. We could meet for coffee, potluck or conference call online?
I am in Santa Fe, NM , Planning to be in EC in mid July thru Mid August with my Husband and 17 year old daughter. We moved to Santa Fe from California in 1975. Lots of family and friends in Santa Barbara, Ca where my husband grew up.
Can't wait to meet you!
Kind Regards,

I just showed a Utah couple around Quito, Mitad Del Mundo, and Mindo.  They also visited Cuenca and are working towards their new life here.

I know New Mexico is not Utah but it is kind of close haha.  Regardless if you would like you can contact me and I will tell you whatever you need to know.

Hi!   I'm as New Mexican as they come...  now Ecuadorian.  I just got my cedula (Ecuadorian ID) last month.  I bought my apartment on the Pennsylvania Avenue of Quito, only blocks from the presidential palace in 2004 just before the price spike.  Love it.  Wouldn't even sell it for anything at this point.  Here's where all the action is.  And this is not a "city that never sleeps."  By 10PM, the historic center winds down and it's time to hit the head to the bed.

I'm really pretty busy at this time, but I'd take time out to meet you if you'd like.

By the way, I have a website up called quito-colonial.com... It gets top billing on google and yahoo, and front page on bing.  Just type in colonial quito or quito colonial, and -colonial comes up...  Just in case I can help you with any info.

Lovely! Thanks. Will look up your site tomorrow. Have a book club tonight. Where are you from in NM?
Kind Regards,
Lannie

Hi...  Andrellita here... I'm from Albuquerque, lived there most of my life, got bored and came to Quito. lol...  Seriously, New Mexico got too dry for my taste.  Love the green hills, flower fairs, palm trees and all the good stuff the rain brings here in Ecuador.  We're on the edge of the rainy season right now.  Also, most of the people here are friendly and welcoming.  But, this is a city of about 2 million, and, of course, you have to use caution.  A few years ago, all you worried about were pickpockets.  It's escalated, but mostly safe in the daytime.  I won't go out at night unless I take a taxi.  I put a post in the forum a few days ago with tips on taking the right taxi.
